So is it common for GS models to sell for invoice? What if they're special ordered?
I'm just curious - I keep hearing that lexus isn't too great when it comes to special ordering, but I don't care if it takes 6 months to get here or not. I'd like to order a GS460, eventually, once the initial demand spike cools off, hopefully for invoice or near to it, and specifically without sunroof, precollission detection, or parking assistance.
Just wondering how viable special orders @ or near invoice are compared to just finding one on the dealer lot?

Usually dealerships don't give breaks on special order cars just because the request is sent to the factory and the assembly order of operations are altered just to make that one off car. Now if it was something they had in their current inventory, they usually will give you the best deal nearest or lower than invoice.
well basically, when car is already there, they will get you best possible deal at that time (depending on vehicle of course) simply to move car... however, when they have to special order it, it means they have to wait for it for 3-4 months, and they will most likely give you non discounted pricing. they will also end up with specifically optioned car that will be possibly harder to move (for instance a lot of people wouldnt get 60k car without moonroof or PA). You also have to give small refundable deposit, but key word is refundable - so they still can get left with the car that might be harder to sell.
Now it all really depends on the dealership, but thats general rule of the tumb. There is no technical reason why any dealership wouldnt sell the special ordered car at the same price as showroom vehicle.

At my time of shopping, Tustin Lexus was the only dealer in California that had a Glacier Frost and it happened to be w/ the exact options and interior that I wanted. The car was still on the carrier when I had called and when I went to look at the car, my salesman had tucked it away in the far corner lot so no one else would see it. He apperently didn't care how much commision he made, but seemed more interested in hitting a numerical quota to get a bonus at the end the the month. So, even though they were the only ones to have the car in Cali (I called everywhere) and he knew how badly I wanted it, he still gave me under invoice.... (or maybe I'm just super cheapo master negotiator... yeah right... cheapo yes, negotiator- ehh...) This was back in March....
