We were on a cruise to the caribbean. The first two shots are from St. Martin; the third is from St. Thomas, and the final two are on the ship.

I've had mine since November and love it.
What mode are you shooting in? Have you used SLR cameras in the past? What camera did you step up from?

As of right now, I've just been using the "Green Box" mode. Nothing too fancy, as we are still trying to figure the camera out. It is my Dad's new camera, so he has been reading the manual cover to cover. We have used SLR cameras in the past, and have a collection of SLR Film cameras. I personally use a 4.1 megapixel Sony Cybershot and my Dad used a Nikon 6 megapixel "in-betweener" (Not quite a small digi cam, not quite an SLR). So this is the most potent Digi that either of us has ever used.
We picked this one out as my Dad already has a Canon film SLR that is fairly new (like 7 or 8 years old) and he has a multitude of Canon Lenses and filters. Being able to interchange with those lenses was a requirement for a digital SLR, so we chose the Canon.
Here is another messing-around-shot... seems like it can take some serious photos!

Once you start reading how to set the manual mode, you'll open up a whole new world to yourself.
I suggest you also take a couple hours to sit down with the camera and the manual and see what different settings do. I personally learn best from experimentation. The books are nice for guidance, but I wouldn't really understand what effects would do until I tried them.

I'm with you... That's why im just snapping photos of everything in different modes. Some of them, well most of them, suck. But, that's what trial and error is all about!

It's always fun playing with different settings and speeds. Too fast a shutter, and you've got a parked car on a track. Too slow, and you've got all blur. There is always a happy medium to achieving the desired look.
