Default No AFS with LED headlights?

I noticed in reading the LS600 specs that a footnote says the LED headlights on the LS600hL are not available with the adaptive front headlight system. Anyone know the scoop? Seems like a shame only to be able to get one or the other.

umm indeed, interesting point. i think AFS is a very good idea, very useful when driving in the night, would be a shame to force to lose it with the led headlights

I'm surprised that AFS would not be included with the LED lights, as this video seems to show differently:

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....page_number=17

Or perhaps the light movement is just slight. I know when the LS 430 lights first turn on, they move 'up' a little, don't know if this is AFS or not.

Some screencaps of the vid I linked to: the lights clearly swivel there, is that not AFS?

the headlights moving up and down that's just normal autoleveling, that's on all lexus hid systems i believe (at least the recent ones since 98). AFS allows the headlights to move sideways when you are turning. now that, we will have to see and confirm if they will be on the 600hl

So then it is like the LS 430 up and down--ah, autoleveling.

Thx for the clarification.

Well it seems then that the 'price' one must pay for '1st ever LED headlights' may be the lack of AFS...apparently one of the side effects of early technology.

It looks like there is one projector that aims sideways and that should cover the area when you take left or right turns.

the top 3 lights don't look like LED's to me, only the bottom looks to feature a set of them.

One of the most inherent advantages to LED lighting is that they can be made to be adaptive almost by nature. So I guess what I'm saying is I'd be surprised if the LED lights are not adaptive. They may not technically be "AFS" because from an engineering perspective that's a completely different setup than the LEDs would use to be adaptive. But none the less - I know Lincoln has a new relatively entry level luxury car coming out with LED lighting (standard, I think) and the engineers were talking about how one of the advantages of the LED lighting was the ability to make it adaptive without the extra expensive of a motor that moves the assembly and the possibility of that motor malfunctioning or wearing out over time.

With LEDs you have hundreds or thousands of tiny diodes that can be made to work as a 'network' system - this means the same network of LEDs could emulate any function of a standard lighting system - high beams, driving lights, blinkers, etc, etc.... whatever you need them to do, and do it much more quickly (LED response time is much quicker than HID and halogen), using much less energy, and generally much more reliably. You might have an LED or two malfunction but it'd be unlikely that you could ever tell by looking at the light unless a cluster of them went out in the same area.

No matter how many times I watch the video, those LED headlights in the demo appear to be swiveling sideways to me. You're sure that was just an up-and-down movement?

Also, if they can move up and down, what could possibly be technically preventing them from moving left and right? It just doesn't make sense to me.

One thing is that the LS preview brochure mentions that AFS is not available with the LED headlights, in the spec section. So whatever the LED headlights have, perhaps it is a separate system...?

they are definetly looking like they are going sideways, winking at you... set it up with your custom remote so when you come close, they wink out... if that doesnt get her excited, interior might...

THey are side adjusting, look at the video it clearly shows all the angles at which the led lights point to and once again they clearly point to the side. It will be interesting if the led output outperforms the output of the 03-06 LS projector headlights.

Just for comparison's sake, the LS 460 / 460 L lights...with the brochure-verified AFS. I wonder exactly what system the 600h L has, I suppose we need to grab a hold of one of those Lexus product specialists...or even one at the NYIAS show...

The 460 lights look like an updated version of those found in the 430.

I would take the LED over the AFS regardless, they just look more cool on the car, too bad it's only for the 600hL . . .
