Scary subject-Have you been screened for HIV?

With recent health issues that doctors could not ascertain , another round of blood work was ordered up on me.

With my wife at my side the doctor asked a questions that nearly floored me. "Have you been screened for HIV"?

Though I am not in one of the high risk categories I do know enough that this disease does not discriminate. Granted my risk was very very low based on my lifestyle but the waiting period for that test -1.5 days-is a &*^%&&*# to go through.

I even did some reading up on the subject and though my results came back negative I do have newfound respect for the over 1 million Americans that have this horrible disease which includes more and more heterosexual men and women each year. 1 out of 4 Americans that have the HIV virus do not even know it and pass it on and this could mean you.

Lesson is to get screened and be careful. That hot 21yo blond can change your life for the POSITIVE

yea I get it done after every girl/ girl friend I'm with.. .and so far soo good, negative. But yea man that 2 days untill you find out is a B$%$h, I swear man you mind is sometimes ur worst enemy.. lol

when i had surgery they did bloodwork on me... HIV came back negative

I forgot the name of this movie, I think it was "kids" or something but it was bout this young guy that had HIV and didn't know it and was having sex with all these girls. The guy and all the girls in their teens. It kinda focused on a young virgin who would not sex with him and finally did. And then the guy has HIV.

Very touching story.

I'm due for my 6month checkup soon. Yea everyone should be tested every 6mths at least.

I got tested when I was 22 (11 long years ago ) That whole week while I was waiting for my results was nerve racking. I almost didn't go back to get my results. I did though and everything was fine.

Ive been tested twice.... August of 05, and just 2 weeks ago. (Plenty of fun occured since then!!) Thank god everything came back negative. The results came back in 20 min. They just prick your finger and give you the results in 20 min... LONGEST 20 MIN EVER!!! I also did the whole STD testing stuff.... let me tell those that have not done it before... IT HURTS!!!!!!! They actually stick a Q-tip type thing in the hole of your....... figure it out. Burns for the next day when you go use the bathroom. That i had to wait 3 days for the results.... Negative!!!

Wouldn't it make sense and be safer in a monogamous relationship (I hope that's the type of relationship you're engaging in ) to ask the female you're interested in to join you in getting tested prior to being sexually active with her rather than going on your own after you've kicked her to the curb? If she's not psychotic I would think she would come to the conclusion that's a reasonable request on your part and agree. She may be hesident at first but tell her it's just to put each other at ease knowing you're not transmitting any STD's to one another. It's not like you're asking only her to get tested while you sit in the waiting room reading the personals in some magazine. lol

Getting tested after you've been sexually active is a bit late.
As far as unprotected one night stands. .

Very much agree. After is too late since once you have it, you have it for life. . Even if I was single I tell you, this has really changed things and I would never sleep with someone unprotected unless they were tested.
