Katrina & Pakistan, talk about disproportional responses...
As far as I can tell from reports, several hundred people died because of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Many of them were frail and elderly and died of either stress, drowning, or serious illnesses they already had. Very sad, but given how bad everyone said the loss of life would be, it's not really significant.
Switch to the earthquake in Pakistan. They say now the death toll is up to EIGHTY THOUSAND. And it's not even on the news here in the U.S.!
The damage and loss of life in Pakistan is hard to fathom.
What do you think the U.S. should do? Right now I believe the U.S. military (as usual) is helping with helicopters.

I agree with you. This should be making headlines here. But as usualy, most Americans only focus on our own hardships. We make Katrina out to be this massive calamity (which I agree it was bad), but then we turn our heads and don't pay attention when almost 80,000 die. Amazing. I wonder why, though. We did respond to the tidal wave appropriately and not this...hmmmm....
FYI...I remember reading that the US Govt have already pledged $50M to the recovery effort. At least we are doing something.

I don't think that is fair. I think the coverage was adequte. We are donating money but its a tough situation as from my understanding, weather conditions have hurt any rescue effot.
And did Pakistan do anything for us and our disasters? Just curious.
We CANNOT police the world. We do not have the resources to do it.
Where is China? Hell with their huge new economy and with OVER 1 billion people, they should step up.

That’s because no one around the world jumps around all day saying we are #1, and tries to control other countries and interferes with internal and external policies on a daily basis.

1.) We are number 1...If you want to know why - see reason #2.
2.) Yeah, we should have never tried to interfere with Hitler's Germany, the Soviet Union, or Iraq when Sadaam was attacking his neighbors. Better to just quiet down so we "don't make any waves". Got to make sure we can please everyone all the time, right?
The world should be thanking us for being one of the few who stand up and help our neighbors in their time of need...

Maybe not. If I spoke out of turn, please correct me. I want an honest and open debate and don't want to misconstrue your intentions.
