Is it a "cop" thing to be racist????
Sorry to rant, but it seems that everytime I'm around apolice officer lately, this person takes the liberty to spew some racial hatred for the assumed entertainment of the crowd.
Here are two examples from the last month or so:
I'm sitting at the shop where I had my custom motorcycle built, and 5 or 6 random people are watching the coverage of hurricane Katrina. In walks a local (Leetsdale, Pa) K-9 unit officer, apparently to hang out and do nothing for a bit. He quickly adds his commentary about his remedy for the situation down in NO: "Just drop a one damn nuke down there and get rid of all of those people, problem solved. Those n_ggers are goin' plain crazy down there."
What am I going to say to a cop about his comment without bringing a world of hassle upon myself?? I naturally ignored him until he left.
Fast forward to just a few nights ago when my buddies and I are standing out in front of a club. One of my friends knows the cop outside the door and asks him, "So, do you have to go pick up bodies tonight?" (Turns out the cop moonlights at the city morgue)
To which the cop replies, "Yea, gotta go out and pick up the dark meat tonight, ha ha ha."
Tell me I'm imagining things here, but are officers not getting their salaries paid by residents of the city, no matter the color of their skin??? I just don't get why officers are so often racist AND openly vocal about it. And peope wonder why minorities have an inherent distrust of police officers. Sad.

My Fathers been a cop for 25 + years and I've never heard him be racist like that.... Some of his good friends are black so i think its certain cops that when they get that uniform on that they think there god for 8 hours.... Once that uniform come off there a piece of shiet ....
I'm sure everyone has seen the beating in New orleans.. I saw that and was like WTF.... this is going to be played over and over like the rodney king incident These cops don't know when to use police brutality.... That guy didn't deserve to be beat to the ground and suffer a half dozen cops hitting and puching him.... No wonder cops get a bad wrap...
What kind of punishment is 2 to 3 days suspension... They should get there badges taken away for a month with no pay a suffer.... just my 0.02

You gotta be careful how you say what you say. You just basically lumped all cops into the sect of being racists. Now your expericens may have been unusual, but its not likely to say that all cops are racist.
To be brutally honest with you, I bet you a LOT of people where saying what he was saying about the New Orleans situation. Just about everywhere I went someone was saying something like that. So i guess that makes everyone everywhere I went, is a bigot.

All of them except the ones who help protect your friends and family and especially those who helped rescue survivers of 9/11, right?

CL bros, please do not get me wrong here....in NO WAY am i implying that ALL cops are racists. That would be an utterly ridiculous generalization. The two examples I used are just the most recent of the comments that I hear coming from officers when they feel they are in "comfortable" surroundings...lol......i.e. many of these officers I know have NO IDEA that I am bi-racial, so I here a lot of shiat .
I simply wonder why, if you are in uniform, would one choose to spew the filth that I continue to hear. Does that not cast police in general in a bad light?? Something think about.

I agree!! I don't feel safe around cops anymore. Been harrassed too many times, but there are good cops out there, too. Only problem is, there seem to be too few of the good cops around.

We'll I think its not really that its a cops thing to be racist, but I do notice that many of the messed up kids, with no colleges to take them end up in the police academy, because its easy work, and pretty good pay. Not to say that most cops are that way, but these are the people who are giving cops a bad name.

a few comments here.... I think people, sometimes with agenda's or parts of organizations sometimes "put" people in places of authority and power,... ie. The Klan, or our beloved Bloods gang. Two scenarios,... David Duke of Louisiana... and then the cop whol allegedly shot Biggie who was a Blood on the L.A.P.D. who is locked up for something else, but still the main suspect in Notorious B.I.G's death. If you got homies in law enforcement,... a lot of things happen from the inside. When I was in the Bahama's, 10 keys of coke were found on the airplane ( Continental ) the flight before mine, and the first thing someone said,.. had to be an inside job because there is no way you could get that stuff thru all of the security checkpoints.
Second thought,.. my experience with cops tend to suck.... the sherriff's tend to be the "cool" in the general good of people public servants,... they seem more down to earth and of general good fiber,.. like they have a higher standard to live up to,... and I'd say for the most part D.P.S. troopers tend to be more legit,... but city level cops suck for real,...and I don't know but a few that are down ( mainly club patrol ).

Its not even that there are two few if you ask me.
There probably are only a small subset of "bad" cops. The problem is that the other cops protect them or look the other way. In my book they are just as "bad". If you look at that NO film, there were even more cops just standing around watching, why didnt at least one say enough already. Watch how the others try to protect the ones that were directly involved. It happens time and time again.

Someone made reference to the fact that there dad was a cop and that he has never heard his dad use those types of words.
Why dont you do an experiment, ask your dad if he has ever heard other cops talk like that. Then ask him if he has ever stood up and said that they should stop reffering to the citizens they are sworn to protect and serve in that manner.
my hope is that he will say that he has never heard cops talk that way or that he has often corrected the cops that do.
My fear is that he just lets it go, which implicates him in the same behavior because by not challenging it he is condoning it.
Just something to look at..

Hmm...I don't even know what to say...people in general are just racist because most are ignorant and close-minded. I also attribute a lot of it to upbringing and what area they reside in. I live in LA where there's a lot of interracial couples so I think people here are a little more open-minded in general on the issue of race...but if you go to other places further east then you run into those close-minded individuals.
I also believe a lot of people become cops for the wrong reasons...couldn't get into their desired field, no college education, want a relatively easy way to make $40k a year right out of the academy, maybe they were bullied in school and feel this will earn them respect, etc. They have no real sense of doing good and protecting the innocent. They're just in it for the paycheck and the ability to see fear in the eyes of certain citizens when they come down on them. It's a power kick for some.
I have several friends of different races and one told me something really disturbing a few weeks ago while we chatted it up at my other buddy's house. This is a guy I went to high school with and he is of a different race than I am. Me and this guy have been tight for years and years and he always offers me a different perspective on certain issues. We were talking about race and whatnot and he pulls me aside and says, "Mike, truth be told man...most people are much more racist than you'd ever expect behind closed doors. Know that bro." I just looked at him in pure shock because I knew who he was referring to. He meant his own race.
Personally I don't understand racism because I know that good and bad exists within all races, but when I see someone buying into racism to the point where they'd make a statement like, "just drop a bomb on them and that will solve the problem" it makes me extremely sad because it is so ignorant at it's core.
What I find funny about cops like the one ebruce mentioned is that if Shaq or Michael Jordan had walked in during that hurricane coverage they'd be the first ones on their jock, begging for an autograph or a picture or some other meaningless crap. But yet they will call them a n****r as soon as they walk out the door
