Phil Donahue rips Oreilly a new one
I quote
"2 things have doubled, the American lives lost, from 1,000 to over 2,000 and the price of Haliburton stock"
"All you guys are talking macho and brave, I don't see your kids or any of their kids in the war".

Interesting sound bite but what's his point? If Donahue believes that Bush went to war to make money in the stock market, that's very sad and naive and just distorted.

Again, what's the point? A President should only take the country to war if their sons or daughters will be in combat? If that's not the point then it's irrelevant.
As O'Reilly pointed out, his nephew just enlisted. No, not his own children, but still a relative. Besides, it's not a parent's choice to 'send' their offspring to war, that's their kids' choice. And I've seen TONS of parents on TV who are proud of their kids being in this war and support them and the war fully. I know Donahue's point is that Bush's daughters and the children of many other prominent supporters aren't in the war, but this has rarely ever been different so it's pretty irrelevant. High ranking politicians are all rich and their kids are usually highly educated and don't feel compelled to go into the military.
Anyway Mike, I know you and I disagree about the war but you've offered no proposal that I'm aware of as to what we should do. I know you think we shouldn't have gotten into it, and are angry that there seem to be no good options but I disagree with that. There *IS* a plan in place, to create a domestic military and police in Iraq, to get a constitution passed, and to capture or kill terrorists there. Is it risk free for our troops, hell no, but the real debate is whether it's making the U.S. safer - I believe it is.

Hey Phil, why don't you do some research next time. Halliburton stock is just slightly higher than it was in '01 and right about the same level as it was in the late 90s.
And if I have to hear the old "if you like the war so much, why don't you send your kids....duhhhh" comment anymore, I might just lose my mind and run amuck.
Guess what...the US Military is ALL VOLUNTEER. The people in Iraq chose to be there by virtue of the fact that they knew the risk of going to war when joining the military. And I might also remind you that they are paid for this very dangerous work. And because I am pro-law enforcement, does that also mean that I should force my children to become police officers? And heck, I believe highly in the war on drugs. Geez, if I subscribe to your theory, maybe I should fly to Columbia, get a gun and start taking on the drug lords myself.
You can be for a war and not be on the front line.

Minor point but I also thought Donahue's continually calling O'Reilly "Billy" was rude.
If Donahue's so smart, how come his 'side' has lost Congress, the Senate, the White House and now the Supreme Court?

I think Donahue's agenda speaks for itself . . . . R-A-T-I-N-G-S.
He always wants to trade on emotion, but as usual, his performance comes up short. Hey Phil, you're such a big, macho patriot, let's compare service records, OK? How many of YOUR kids are in Iraq? What? You didn't sell them into the service? Funny, to hear you tell it all of our servicemen are conscripts who have no sense of responsibility or honor, but are forced to serve against their will. 'Nam is over, you sixties burn-out, get over it!
