(see post 24) Bush says results of hurricane response 'not acceptable'
http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/09/....ap/index.html
"It's worse than imaginable," the president said after walking through a battered neighborhood in Biloxi, Mississippi. He warned of gasoline supply problems this weekend because of damaged refineries and pipelines.
"I'm not looking forward to this trip," Bush said as he set out for a firsthand look at the destruction in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.
"It's as if the entire Gulf Coast were obliterated by the worst kind of weapon you can imagine," the president said.

We have basically every major official complaining about the response, including the president. It looks to me like we have some lack of communication. Everyone that could help is here and available, but the coordination of all the parties involved seems to be minimal.
The red cross is an independent organization so it doesn't want to work directly with the goverment since they will try to take over the red crosses efforts and cordinate them, OTOH the goverment doesn't want to babysit the red cross.
I think this will all come together much more smoothly if the agencies work together with more communication.

I guess his whole... "Im on a working vacation, I can do work from anywhere in the country," is shot now... lets face it, he couldn't work well from Crawford, he couldn't work well from D.C. ... ohh my god, he may have to get out there with the people in the US outside of a pre-scanned fake town hall meeting!

Your Bush bashing is getting a little bit tiring
If you want to bash there's plenty of blame to around starting with residents of the Gulf Coast who refused orders to evacuate, on up the ladder to the Local, and State governments, Federal agencies, Congress and even the White House, But all the finger-pointing misses the point: Local and State Politicians and the people they lead too often ignore danger signs until a crisis
hit and then it's Bush's fault!.

It seems llike the unacceptable response might be caused, in part, by the fact that the National Guard (which is state controlled) is deployed to Iraq. The National Guard constitutes approximately 40% of the troops on the ground in Iraq. I suspect that some of those very same National Guard troops deployed in Iraq are from Louisiana.
The response to the hurricane was unacceptable according to Bush, but nothing that happened was enough to get him to cut his month-long vacation short.
Now, he feels obligated to see the damage for himself.
Thanks.
A.
Lot.
With the money it cost taxpayers to fly his @$$ to Louisiana, it may have been possible to transport more stranded people out of the area or open another refugee center.
Instead, a lot of money was spent to bring a guy, who just got back from another vacation, to the area to say, "this is bad."
Nice work.

He is the master of this ship... the busk stops with him-
Also, how can you blame citizens too poor to leave? what do you want them to do? They went to the super dome like they were told to do.
if you are tired of my post ignore them, but this is a debate forum and Im just posting my opinion
However... its very frusturating personally for me to sit here and watch this, and to talk to my family, and my friends, some of which are in the middle of this, and not get upset.

Now did I say that? Nope, all Im crediting him and his administration with is poor planning for post storm recovery.
If we perform like this for a storm that we had 5 days to watch come to our shores, how will we react to a terrorist attack down here in either NO or Houston (the two major petro producing cities in America)??? We had time to watch this storm approach us, and we still have been rationing, and running out of, gasoline up and down the eastern coast...

I was being sarcastic! Where the poor planning started was with the local officials.

The blame game has always been a favorite American pastime

I like the Japanese way of dealing with problems. Fix it THEN find out who %$'ed it up.
(and kill them ) (might be going a bit far)
