Thats just horrible. Yeah, they want to come here for an opportunity but for that!?! thats just stupid. For them to get land and they aren't even legal immigrants. I know a person who's been married to an american born citizen for 20 years and can't have property willed because she isn't a citizen!!!

What a load of BS!

The only thing these 2 should get is an armed escort back into Mexico.

so, let me get this straight......

All you have to do is set foot on American soil and you have all the same rights of due process through our legal system as a born-and-raised US citizen???

We sure are sending the WRONG message to illegals.

If anything, the property should have maybe gone up for government auction or something similar.

And yet, through all of this I can't help but see the irony in this. These people are in effect getting back a piece of land that belonged to their people hundreds of years ago. Just crazy.

DON'T blame liberal judges for THIS one. ( There's already enough nonsense they CAN be blamed for).

Yes, you heard this on CL from a conservative like me, and generally a Bush supporter....but Bush is going to have to take the rap for a lot of this. He simply is NOT enforcing immigration laws. He WANTS the country full of Hispanics...they generally vote Republican. (often after registering to vote fraudulantly with fake ID's or drivers' licenses)

I must be missing something being a born and raised American, but is the legal immigration/naturalization process that difficult or is it simply sneaking in illegally is that much easier?

I believe it is pretty difficult to get in legally.

Doesn't justify crossing illegally though.

The BS in this case resides in a number of areas:

1. How can a criminal immigrant (i.e. illegally here, hence a criminal) get legal representation in our court system?

2. The awarding of the property didn't fit the crime of a weapons violation. The punishment didn't fit the crime. Had this been between two citizens of the US, the punishment would be a lot less severe, and there would be no awarding of the property.

3. The judges statements sound like he has a tremendous beef with the Minuteman project. Handing down a sentence based on emotions, not fair justice.

Yeah I disagree with Bush's policy on the border, I think a fence needs to go up.

I agree with mmarshall and you cannot just blame liberals for things like this. Even though I do agree with Bush on many things I do not agree with him on his illegal immigration policies lately. I know that Bush has Mexican family and friends but that is not an excuse and he is not being as agressive on illegal immigration like he has been on homeland security and it is leading to American citizens forming groups like the minutemen that help patrol borders because our govt is not doing the proper job. One of the main reasons for Bush and other republicans to do this is for hispanic votes. Our countries safety, security, and ensuring that only people that are in this country are here legally is more important then political gain and it is unacceptable to take a lax postion on border security for votes. Bush calling the minutemen "vigilantes" was out of line when it is mainly people sick and tired of seeing illegals crossing the border in their backyards and they are concerned about their safety and security and their countries security and are only responding to the lack of border control and more aggressive enforcement. If this keeps up it will only be a matter of time before Al Qaeda or some other terrorist/criminal group takes this hole in our security as an opportunity to smuggle weapons and terrorist over our borders if they have not done so already. Bush needs to stop caring about loosing hispanic votes and get more border agents and technology to stop the influx of illegal immigrants we have in this country, especially considering the risks posed today.

As for the sentence that is one of the most stupid if not stupidiest thing our criminal justice system has ever done in a very long time. Rewarding someone that has broken the law and who is not even a citizen or in this country legally nor should they have legal representation because someone else broke the law. Great message they are sending. I believe those judges were liberals but still what idiot would hand out that kind of silly moronic feel good sentence which to me isn't even legal that undermines our border security efforts. So sentences like that generally say instead of going through the steps to be in this country legally just commit a crime by jumping the U.S. border and if your lucky a U.S. citizen may break the law and threaten you or harass you when apprehending you(even though the other immigrants said the family gave them cookies, water, and a blanket and allowed them to leave) and some idiot feel good judge will award you money and that persons U.S. land that you have no right or entitlement to instead of just sending you back to where you snuck in from. Those illegals should not have been awarded any money and especially not awarded any U.S. land. It is amazing we actually let this idiot judge do this and to continue to practice law in this country.

Politicians are scared of putting any real enforcement on immigration laws if the immigrants are Hispanic. They're afraid the Hispanic voters will turn on them. If the immigrant is not Hispanic though, look out! They're on the first boat home.

That is sickening... Im am all about giving people the chance to come to America, but they need to do it the correct way, so our borders can stay safe. At the same time.

I read an interesting article the other day that said Ilegal immigration is the issue that could split the party. A lot of people like to claim that Bush bends over for his special interest groups... and I dont know if this is a case of conflicting special interest groups (big busines vs almost all americans!) or what, but its an interesting stance to say the least.

Where should I start.

1 ) Bush is a fault and should be kicked for it. I support Bush, am a Republician, voted for him but this is where I dislike him. PROTECT THE BOARDERS FROM CRYING OUT LOUD lol

2 ) The Judge should be thrown in prison. He put up rights (which they dont have) Iof illegal immigrants (no they are not travelers like the liberals and the alien lawyers stated) over American citizens.

3 ) Those lawyers should be thrown in prison or kicked out of the US.

Well, you know that I am a strong Bush supporter, but, like any human being, he is not always right. We have Federal laws in this country governing who can come into the country legally, under what circumstances, and what must be done to FULFILL those circumstances....which he took an oath as President (twice) to enforce. But....he does not seem to show much interest in actually ENFORCING them. He gives lip service to immigration laws but in fact places roadblocks on the INS and Customs people.
Why is this so? I won't actually claim that is because of "special interest " reasons, but it is a fact that many Hispanics vote Republican.
