Default I just got a quote for $48,200 for 2006 GS 300

I just got this quote from a California Lexus dealer.
Is this a rip off price for the 2006 GS 300 (RWD)?

a) no navigation system, no upgraded sound, no back up camera
b) standard wheels included
c) moon roof included
d) wheel locks included
e) mats included

$43879 + tax + misc = $48200 out of the door

I believe the dealer invoice for this car is around $37752. MSRP is around $42,900. They say the demand is high, so they're asking me for $48,200, out of the door.

Some questions:

1) What number do you suggest I should counter at?

2) Do you think if I wait til summer, the price will lower at all?

3) I know I can get a great deal on the 2005 model. Is the performance on the 2006 GS that much better than the 2005? If I go with the 2005 model, what will I lose out?

Thanks.

I would PM Liz her, screename is LongoLexus, I am sure she can beat that deal.
I don't think you would lose out on either car.
To me, that is AWD price, not RWD price, looking at the options. So its too high. I would expect to pay near asking price for the car, they are selling like hotcakes. But 48k for a GS 300 that is not loaded is too high.

Eh, MSRP for avail GS300 RWD, w/ moon roof, ventilated front seats, rainsensing wipers, and AFS is $45,275.00 with delivery fees.That accessory package is like $300, so it seems to me that you got like $1,000 discount on GS.

Not too shabby.

that seems very pricey for a car w/o all those features...does lexus think that they can command the premium by mb and bmw nowadays?

Sorry but you're in Guam. What's priced there has nothing to do with mainland United States pricing.

It doesn't sound like any deal to me. It sounds practically straight up MSRP. I know in my state priced out straight MSRP I can get a GS300 RWD for a base price of $42,900, plus Suffix 3 option package ($2,635):

* (SS) Sunshade
* (RF) Rear Spoiler
* (RS) Rain Sensing Wiper
o Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)
* (WO) Clearance Sonar
* (SR) Moonroof
* (VS) Ventilated Seats

plus, $650 destination charge, plus $175 doc fees, plus state tax and it comes out to $48,214.40. That is without dealing at all since it is MSRP prices.

If you really want this car than 1k should not play any difference. I paid MSRP but I also got the first one of the boat. I am not complaining. If you are always looking for a new model and a low price you will never a buy a car. This is the same story as with computers. You always have to pay a premium for the fastest chip.

interesting, whats your sale tax there? Maybe I am not calculating something right but 42,900+2635+650+175= 46360 before taxes?

Three out of four cars in my family are first year model, and I swear I wouldn't buy another first year model anymore. They are more expensive and have relatively more problems. And after one year or two, Lexus would ungrade the engines, why not wait for the later one.

why we cant wait until lexus comes out with a better engine........ cause some of us have been waiting anxiously already for the last few years.... also i personally have enough faith in toyota/lexus that they build good enough cars that we wont face any major problems with their first year models......
