THe difference if I recall when I was working for Volvo is that the new Flat Blades use a one piece metal rod across the entire blade. It doesnt have the spokes(i guess thats what you would call them)that are used in traditional wiperblades. Its hard to explain, but think of just the actual sweeper part of the blade(the part that contacts the glass) and thats it. Thats what it looks like. And when you pick it up off the glass, it will curl into a half moon shape. Its pretty wierd looking.
Benefits of it is that its light weight, quiter, more aerodynamic, reduces chatter, and provides a even clean sweep. The downsides to this new wiper blade is that since its just one metal rod throughout the entire construction, some places might not contact the window at all(more than likely the middle part of the blade). And will produce chatter. Plus its known to completely fall off the wiper arm.
But like highmiles said, take it back, they will easily replace it.
The reason I asked is becuase I was curious becuase I see these new blades being used more often(European cars), and I personally dont think that they are much better. Plus they arent available in the aftermarket yet. They could be quite expensive to replace.
