Did I see someplace that the fuel tank of the new GS will only hold 15-16 Gallons (perhaps the Canadian specs page - which had metric and gallons)? If that is the case, that is not good. I have a long commute, driving 23,000 miles per year, and I will be filling up every other day practically.

The current GS has a capacity of 19-20 gallons I think. The new Infiniti M has a 20 gallon capacity. Please tell me this new GS is similar. Thanks.

According to the e-brochure on Lexus.ca the '06 GS430 has a 15.6 gallon tank. Hope that helps!

That stinks! Isn't this VERY small for a car in this class? I am really disappointed. I know many of you will think this is minor, but I do not want to become best friends with my gas station attendant. I do not care about mileage, but I do care about having to fill up constantly.

This is not a deal breaker, but it sure doesn't help the Gs in my GS vs. M decision this spring/summer, which is very close right now.

Anybody else agree? Disagree - am i being much too picky?

I think if its only 15 gallons or so, then its a pretty ****ty a$$ capacity. What the hell were lexus thinking in making it only 15 freakin gallons...

major thumbs down!

Not sure. the current car has a 18.9 gallon tank. If fuel economy increases due to the dual VVTi and direct injection, maybe you will get equal mileage out the smaller tank.

Mike,

I think you hit the nail on the head. From what I read it should be much better fuel economy with Direct Injection so even thou it has a smaller tank your mileage will be the same if not better than the Infiniti M cars. Food for thought! :)

The current GS300 gets only 18/25 BTW.

Maybe it's because they wanted to dump so weight. I don't know how much three extra gallons of gas weight(15gallon capacity compared to 18 gallon capacity), but it seems that Lexus has been cutting weight from everything. They apparently shaved a piece of metal from every screw in the car which took off some pounds, maybe the smaller tank has something to do with that to.

I mean, not only would it be 3 extra gallons of gas weight, but also the metal that would have went into making the tank bigger.

Hey less weight, quicker acceleration, it's fine with me. Especially if this VVTi thing getting the car good gas milage.

P.S. I'm not saying that this is why they are only using a 15 gallon tank, but just a possibility.

Does Canada use Imperial Gallons?

1 British Imperial gallon = 1.201 U.S. gallons (15 Imperial = 18 U.S.)

There's no way the tank size on ES330 is also 15.4 gallons according to the Canadian site!! In the US site it's listed as 18.5 gallons, exactly 1.201 x 15.4.

All the rants here can be put to rest now. :bigthumbu

Wow, so it is 18 gallons then in US measurements? That means even less gas station stops, I am sure the fuel economy will be near tops in class.
Car freak, your still on to something. Maybe :bigthumbu

The 3GR-FSE in the Crown Athlete gets about 8.7L/100km, which equates to about 27MPG. Also the 3GR-FSE in the Athlete is tuned with a bit more power, so expect the fuel consumption to be a bit higher than 27MPG. This is US MPG mind you. Hope this helps.

That's the up side of having the lowest HP in this class of sedan - it will probably have the best milage of the bunch - although the 530 at under 3500lbs with the new I6 will be close.

i agree with 1sick too. the gas tank size doesn't mean anyting to me, the gas mileage in general is. i dont' care if you have a 30gallon tank, if your car is like the ford GT with the ridiculous gas mileage, it's not going to help anything

With a 70L tank (About 15.6 gallons I think), the GS300 achieves a range of a bit more than 804.6 kms (approximately 500miles) since these figures are based upon the Athlete.

The current car actually has a 19.8 gallon tank.

http://www.lexus.com/models/gs/specifications.html

If it goes down to 15 or 16 gallon tank, then that's a 20 to 25% reduction which means more frequent trips to the gas station which sucks.

Not if Lexus' mileage stats can overcome the loss in fuel tank size. ;)

Careful gents.....were comparing Imperial vs. metric measurements :nono: ;)

For us Canadians the fuel tank is 71 litres OR 15.6 of 'Canadian or British gallons which are 'Imperial' Gallons' ,

which is 18.76 U.S. Gallons (or Metric gallons). Just wanted to clairify that one

marc, the new Infiniti M series you mention that has the 20 Gallon tank is in Metric Gallons, not Imperial. So what I'm saying is the Infiniti has only a 1.24 Metric (or U.S.) Gallon larger tank which is about 4 litres more which is nothing as I will bet the GS in both V6 & V8 form will get better MPG over the Infiniti. . Hope this helps. :bigok:

We should get an Imperial & Metric conversion set up on here some place lol.
