spoke to elizabeth from longo today, and she said the new GS will have the new generation 4 navi. does anyone know what the difference between navigation generations are? are there any current lexus' navis that can do a bird's eye view or show a 3-d view of certain buildings? she also said pricing will roughly be the same so 42k for base 300, 46k for loaded 300. I didn't inquire about the 430, b/c i'm not in the market for one.
Do you know if is possible to special order a lexus the way you want it to be?
For example... All I want is the 06GS300 base (RWD) with wood package being the only option.
I DONT want all of the stuff the package offers. JUST the wooden package with wood on steering and shift knob.
And following suit from past lexus offerings where you have to "get the whole package or nothing at all"...i figured if u special order the vehicle, u may be able to get it with only the options u want from the package.
By the way...I read in yahoo news, that toyota is developing or developed (i forgot if they are in the process of or just came out with) a navigation system that will now use 2-D imagery. Meaning..u will see building dimensions in 2-D- as in a birds eye view like you are talking about....
if it developed - and they have it on this "new generation navigation system" GS..... THAT WILL BE HOTTT!!!!!!!!!!

Is it possible or no?
You can order a Lexus anyway you want. U just have to be stern and patient, since they have to custom build it.

Oh by the way guys...the birds eye view navigation systems are available for certain vehicles...infininiti has it on its QX..i know that for sure....this technology is actually like 2 yrs old though..so the new GS thats coming out - MUST have this or somethign more advanced...
heres an article I found - that tells a litle about this technology... (again..this is 2 YEARS old..keep that in mind... it makes u think that no lexus has this yet, if im not mistaken...wierd isnt it?)
back to the nav, the 4th gen nav was first introduced on the 04 ls430. the main diff is that it's a completely new software, it has voice recognition (you say restaurants and it shows you), more poi, etc...
and right now the 05 sc430, es300, ls430, rx330, gx470, i believe they all have 4th gen

i read somewhere that the new navis have "footprints" of buildings...is this true? also does the lexus navi have a bird's eye view?

yup that's true. i have nav on my is300 and now the sc430, the is300 has the 3rd gen, and it's ok. but on my 05 sc430, when i am on the street, i can see the foot print of the buildings. me and my wife our eyes almost popped out when we saw (and confirmed our guess) that.
but nop, there is no bird's eye view. dunno, i think that's a cool neat feature, but i wonder if that's that useful? (this is a real question, i wonder how useful bird's eye view is)
