Although not a fan of Powell, he did have several good qualities. It's sad to see him go.
I wonder what's going on around there. With this current batch of peoply resigning, that makes 6 people from Bushs cabinet this month. Maybe they know something we don't.

Powell has always maintained that he will serve only one term as SOS if Pres. Bush was reelected!!!
Anyway, Bush Choose Condoleezza Rice to Replace Powell.

Bill O'Reilly proposed Bill Clinton for Secretary of State! It would actually be a brilliant move but there's not a chance in hell that he would either get nominated or would accept.

That actually would have been a brilliant move. It would have been a huge step in pulling the country together.

The majority of Americans like the way this country is headed, that's why they voted for Bush and he won! It's called winning the popular vote!!!
The liberals should be the ones coming back to the negotiation table or shall I say moving towards the middle of the table to join us not vice versa!!!!! We shouldn't be the ones extending the hand and yes that's my opinion!! The Democrat party has been hijacked!!!!

Why are all these people resigning if the country is going in such a good direction?

Has nothing to do with that.
Actually last night on the news they mentioned that this is pretty typical for any President that has served 2 terms. Clinton, Reagon, etc. I would imagine that the time demands are pretty extensive and many of them have a hard time being away from their family and missing many of the things associated with their family for 4 years, let alone 8..

You need a little education. It's protocol...........has nothing to do with the "direction" of the country. It is customary for Cabinet members to consider themselves unemployed at the start of a new term....even if the incumbent wins, like in this case. Technically the President "re-hires" everyone at the start of the second term unless they formally resign and he accepts it.
Powell's departure was no surprise....he stated four years ago he did not want a second term. Ashcroft is leaving for health reasons. Tom Ridge had no real desire for the jo to start with...Bush asked him to take it.
As for the others........well, no one wants to work forever. As to why they want to leave, you'll have to ask them.

Yeah, actually I knew that, but I felt like asking the question to see if anyone would get all uptight and come up with some bs answer. http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/hsugh.gif

I don't know what you consider BS, but what I told you was fact, not BS. It is normal protocol for Cabinet members every four years to consider their term over unless reappointed by the President. Sometimes each Cabinet member formally and publically resigns.....sometimes not.....but, public or not, each Department Chief is technically resigned until formally or informally re-appointed.
