90K service/ cheaper in SoCal vs NoCal?
Hi,
I'm wondering if the 90K service is cheaper at Lexus dealers in Southern California, San Diego or Los Angeles vs Northern California/ San Francisco Bay Area?
Does anyone know? What have you paid where you are?
This service includes changing the timing belt...

For the 90K service I would use a private/independent mechanical repair facility. Ask around in your town/area for a reputable & reliable place. As long as they are familiar with Toyota or Japanese cars in general you should have no problem and save quite a bit.
Since the car is no longer under warranty it really makes no sense to take it to Lexus IMO unless your looking to pay through the roof.

timing belt + 90K svc in Norcal...
For the 90K service I would use a private/independent mechanical repair facility.
I waited until 100K, which is cutting it a bit close as the timing belt was starting to fray at the seam.
In addition to the timing belt, they replaced the following: timing belt tensioner and idler, water pump, front main seal, serp belt, plugs, caps, rotors, all filters, all fluids (oil, trans, brake, rear diff, ps, coolant) , upper and low rad hoses, and a few other things. They also ran a full battery of tests including compression.
Total was $1381.
AFAIK, Lexus gets around $1200+ just for the timing belt and water pump.
Yes, this is expensive IMO but I didn't want to try the timing belt R&R myself....not worth the risk.

I just got my '96 LS400 back today from getting its service done (would have had it yesterday, but could not make it before my mechanic left for the day)... I also waited until 100,000 miles to get the timing belt done. I had the cambelt, water pump, serpentine belt, thermostat, and radiator hoses replaced, along with coolant flush, transmission fluid change (I have it drained and refilled every 10,000 miles instead of powerflushing it), brake fluid changed, and rear differential oil changed. And of course, engine oil/filter changed and tyres rotated. I'll be replacing the spark plugs and related components in a while myself.
Totoal cost: $650.81. I bought everything but fluids at the Longo Lexus with my employee discount and took it to my mechanic.

I'm looking for a good (ie: trustworthy) independent mechanic who knows Lexus cars. Your price is ok. I got a quoate of $900 for the timing belt and water pump (inc bearings) 06 LX470..

While I don't have that particular '97 LS400 anymore, I do have another '97 LS4 that I use for work and I still go to the same shop, Kuno's in Redwood City. Tell Ray that Sean L sent you...
