Default Considering GS to IS

My 2006 GS is getting old, and I'm looking to get something new. I was sure I was going to get a 4GS... until it came out, that is. I never could quite accept it. Was hoping it would have had a different styling direction. The other mid-sized luxury cars in the segment don't excite me either (5-Series, A6, E-Class). Don't really want a bigger car, but even going up in size the only one I like is the A7.

Looked into some coupes also... Audi A5/S5, and thought about the upcoming RC/RCF, but I prefer a sedan.

Looking at the IS, I think it is a beautifully designed car inside and out. I prefer a bigger car, but then again, I rarely have a lot of people in my car, so I guess I really don't need the space that much. I'm going to test drive it to see how I like it. Problem for me is that the non-F has some options I want, and the F-Sport has options I want, but you have to choose one or the other, which really sucks.

We'll see... maybe I'll be going from GS to IS soon.

Default what options?

The new 2015 IS 350 FSPORT has ventilated seats and I thought that's all the Fsport was missing? I just got my 2014 is 350 and LOVE it. I'm a 6'1 195lb man and I have plenty of room.

I thought there were other things like rain sensing wipers and other luxury details besides the ventilated seats?

Matter of fact, is there any comprehensive list of options available for each model? I didn't really see it on the Lexus website.

Never mind... I found it.

So... just a few more examples:

No wood trim on F-Sport
No memory seats on F-Sport
No Rain sensing wipers on F-Sport
No Starfire Pearl (my favorite color) on F-Sport

etc...

I feel your frustration. I really wanted an F-Sport with leather, memory seat and parking sensors, but Lexus decided that combination isn't something North America wants. That combination is available in many parts of Europe, some Asian countries and Australia. I went with a non-F sport IS350 with the Luxury package. I didn't really care about the Rain sensing wipers or the wood trim, but prefer the wood on the IS to the "Silver Performance Trim" on the F-Sport. I wish Lexus would have gave the IS F-Sport the same aluminum trim used in the 4GS F-Sport.

The 4GS's styling has grown on me considerably and it's a great car to drive. There are a lot of things I really like better on the GS, and you can get pretty much all the features on the F-Sport model. Starfire Pearl is no longer available on the 2014 GS F-Sport, although the 2013 had it.

If it helps, I've owned a GS F Sport for 2 years now. I love the car. I was thinking I wanted to go smaller and I had an IS250 loaner for a couple of days this week. The car was a blast to drive, even in non- F Sport 250 guise, but the interior (although nicely designed) was a couple of steps down in quality and there was much more road noise than in my GS. No doubt the IS is a beautiful car and in IS350 F Sport trim would be like heaven to drive, but I would seriously suggest you drive both before making that switch. Especially going from an '06 GS, which is like an isolation chamber, the IS will be a big difference.

The GS F Sport doesn't have wood trim either. It has aluminum trim.

Also, the IS F Sport doesn't have tilt-down mirrors for backing up, if that matters to you.

Get the non f sport to get all the luxury amenities you want, and add on all the F Sport goodies afterwards
