Sup guys,

So I started to hear more noise in the cabin while driving slowly through parking lots. It sounded like my springs on my coils were bouncing around when hitting minor bumps and dips while going about 5-15 mph.

So I took my wheels off and inspected further and it appeared that my springs were completely compressed and the locks under the springs were tight. This didn't make sense cause i originally thought my spring was traveling up and down due to the locks not being tight. This was not the case.

Next I popped the hood and took off my plastic covers to find this





As you can see, it looks like the rubber stoppers are all torn up at the top of my coils. I think this is whats making the sounds that i described above. I don't hear any sound while going medium to highway speeds when hitting bumps BUT i did notice when I do hit bumps going fast it sounds terrible like metal on metal BUMP where as before It didn't sound bad at all.

Any clue on what I should do to fix this? I e-mailed my coilover vender and haven't had any response. I may try to rig some sort of foam or rubber stopper in place of these but if that fails I may just end up putting the stock suspension on and parting the car out and be done with the car game after all.

These are Stance Coilovers.

So I sent these pics to Stance themself and they are going to send me some replacement bushings. I'm not sure if this is common, just thought I'd ask others who had coils set to stiff all the time if they ran into similar problems with their BCs, Megans, etc.

To me it appears that the top retaining nut might have been installed using an air gun and torqued the bushing WAY too much. It's the only thing makes sense; that rubber would have never normally deteriorated that quickly, even in hot temps. Looks like one of the end link bushings I had over-torqued on one of my previous cars.

I have stance gr+ myself for the last 3yrs and mine hasn't done that. It been threw winter temp as low as -5. At least your getting it replaced that good.

Yeah I did the install myself and am using air tools, I think I ****ed up

I just wanted to try and be safe and make sure everything was tight but I guess I tightened it too much. When you say the top retaining nut, are you referring to the three nuts holding the coilover up under the hood?

The retaining but is the gold colored one at the top of your coilover, directly above the bushing.

If they are full bodied coils. Why did you mess with the Top nut.

Every coilover I have ever had was a complete assembly and I never touched the nut on the top hat

^Correct. When it comes to rubber bushings, you only want to snug the nut tight against the bushing and continue to tighten until you start to notice the bushing is starting to compress. Then stop...you are good to go!

I understand now, well in fact I never once adjusted the top bolt at all, only the 3 nuts holding them in place under the hood. The center where I adjust the dampening has never been tightened.

That's weird I dont have anything like that on the top of my Stance coils???

**UPDATE**

I uploaded a pic to show what they look like from factory, also I spoke to Stance USA and they opt'd to send me a set of 4 bushings absolutely free.

Now I'm still not sure if me using an air gun to tighten the bolts under the hood caused it, or if perhaps I've been running the dampening at stiff setting from the beginning (40K miles on them now) so I'm not sure why this occurred but now when I drive he car you can feel that the ride comfort has diminished since these rubber bushings are practically gone.

I'd say don't use the air tools. Glad it worked out for you with free replacement parts.

^Yes, free is usually VERY hard to get from any vendor.

When you replace the bad rubber bushings, just slightly squish the rubber. Not too loose, and definitely not too tight either.

Smashin...if you don't have those, like me, you probably have a pillowball mount instead. I have BCRs though.
