My suggestion is to stay with someone that you know will be around. The one sold by dealers should be good. However, most people say that some dealers have better prices than others, so it will pay to shop around. I do believe that your factory warranty has to still be in effect to purchase the Lexus extended warranty. Others may chime in.

When driving the most reliable brand on the market, extended warranties are generally a waste of money (statistically speaking). I would simply not get one.

The extended warranty I bought from Lexus on my 07 IS250AWD has paid for itself almost three times over. Statistically speaking, the IS250 is a piece of crap. Doubt me?

How many recalls & service campaigns have we had? I've lost count because there have been so many.

This is not a well made car. I will get rid of it just before my extended warranty expires.

Clay is the exception. Consumer Reports touts the reliability of our cars and advises not to buy an extended warranty. Buying an extended warranty is betting your car will break down. Go with the averages and save your money. You can use it if a repair is needed.

Understand you have had many issues, but at the same time I have owned a 2006 IS350 and now a 2011 IS350 without a single problem worth noting. Recalls included Lexus/Toyota is still making the most reliable cars on the market.

I know you are unhappy with your car but just like Dknight said, you are the exception to this rule. Go buy a Land Rover and tell me how you feel about that purchase as water leaks into the dome light

No extended warranty from Lexus cause your nolonger with in factory warranty. The third party warranty is your only option and are rip off. I rather save my money to fix it then hope they agree to fix it. Remember with some warranty company the adjuster have to look at it and agree to fix it.

Yeah, I am the exception.

Go take a look at the carbon build up thread (like I said, I have an IS250AWD). Lexus replaced my pistons and piston rings. Not a well made car.

All pistons & piston rings.
Both rear calipers.
2 door lock actuators.
Both rear axle shaft assemblies.
Start up noise campaign
All the other recalls

That is not a well made car.

Flame away.

If the extended warranty is from the dealership, I would consider it. A third party is completely out of the question; lexus is reliable enough for me and I have read so many horror stories about difficulties from third party warranties.

Can you get a warranty from Toyota? The biggest issue Ive had is with the dash and door panels literally melting apart...Worst interior for any car Ive ever seen...

I don't know about a Lexus warranty but I had an aftermarket warranty once on a Ford Sport Trac. The transmission went out on the truck and I took it in to get rebuilt. I had a bumper to bumper extended warranty. The warranty company refused to rebuild the transmission and insisted that a used transmission be installed that they located several states away. They wouldn't even cover how much it would cost to put in a used transmission towards a rebuild at first. After about a week of haggling they contributed $900 towards a $2200 rebuild. The extended warranty cost $1,600... not worth it.

Default Lexus extended warranty

I just purchased a Lexus extended warranty (platinum & zero deductable) for my SC 430 that has 93K Miles. It covers everything, but is expensive. Bought from my Lexus dealer.
