Question SC 430 max speed limiter defeat ?

I think the SC 430 has a limiter at 155'ish MPH as I couldn't get my one over it and I did try for about 50 miles or so , or maybe I have a low BHP issue holding me back...

Has the Europe spec SC430 a limiter, and if it does is there a defeat for it ? I'd like to be able to shake off those tiresome Audi's on the outer lane of the autobahn, but most of them have 155 MPH limiters too and it gets crowded with 5 or 6 of us stuck together like a group of gossiping women, all of us helmed in by the restriction of the limiters. My tires are rated for 186 MPH by the way, though I doubt she would have the power for that.

I believe that the cars are ECU speed limited to about 155 mph. I don't know if the cars shipped to the different countries are set up the same way but I'm pretty sure that the US cars are limited to about 155 mph, from what I've read.

that is correct, most folks back off at 150 anyway

Trom says: "most folks back off at 150 anyway."
In my experience, most people don't get anywhere near 150. I've had this car since '01, and once, in '02 probably, got it up to 120 on an open expressway, just to see what it was like (rock solid). That's really fast, and although I've cruised on occasion at speeds of 90 and maybe a little over, that's about as fast as I feel comfortable going. Nobody should be going 150 in these things.

The Sc430 has a speed limiter. Here in Germany it is limited to 250km/h, which is about 158 mph.

My lexus was opened by the preowner. He is a mechanic at Toyota-Lexus Dealer. It speeds up to 285km/h ( 175mph ) messured via OBD-II connection.

I think that sounds about right. I recall the original reviews mentioning the US limiter being set at 150, and mentioning that it was higher in Europe, or perhaps had no limiter set in Europe. All of which is pretty academic for most of us, but makes for interesting conversation when your neighbor drives a Prius.

Nearly like your display. I have a European speedometer and it only shows a maximum of 280 km per hour.

Ooohhh ....., fairly brave making a photo at that speed . The SC 430 is a little uneasy at such a speed and especially when the highway pavement is not so smooth and it jumps a little from one concrete slab to the other.
Did you measure that on an american highway? Wow! As I already said, your very, very brave

In Germany the speed won´t be an issue, because on most of the highways you could drive as fast as you want, or let´s better say, your car could go. But I guess you already knew that.

It doesn't look like that speedometer is installed in a car. You can see a white background to the right of it, which you wouldn't see if it were in a dashboard.

This is pure speculation, but you might be able to get around it by recalibrating the speedometer. If you could adjust it to even 1% off, that would give you an extra 15 mph.

That seems about right

More information on the OBD-II device used to measure this, and of course the work done by the preowner to unlimit the car please JMontana. Überprüfen Sie bitte mit ihm. Danke.

Hi Graham,

I hope that the foto gets uploaded! I´m new her and not sure, if I did it right.

You only need a HH OBD Advanced Bluetooth Adaper ( 15 Euro at Ebay or even cheaper! ), a Smartphone Mobile ( here a SAMSUNG Note I ) with a App called "Torque" OBD Check and thats it.

http://www.trait-tech.com/product/T-...r-audi-vw.html

http://www.pandawill.com/advanced-hh...le-p69954.html

The App is a pretty good Engine Managemet Diagostic Tools. You are able to read fault codes and even clear them! It really works, I tested it. on the SC430! You could create your own displays where it shows you a lot of interessting informations of you engine while you drive your car! Besides the many things it tells you about your car, it also reads the actual speed. And so it read the 285km/h, which was also readable with a mobile GPS Navigation Device.

Graham, I´m unfortunately the pre-preowner and do not have connection to the mechanic technician, which owned the car first. The last owner did not make a good impression on me, unfortunately. I´d say he had two left hands.

The first owner seemed to be a Lexus lover and had transformed the car. Only after he had bought a LFA and the garage was getting full, he decided to sell the SC.

I would say he overwrote the speed limiter in the ECU. But don´t ask me how he did it!.
I already heared that it might be a little difficult to get access to the ECU on some Lexus Models.

Graham, nice greatings to your wife! I liked your last sentence and it gave me a real big smile! :
"I'd even chrome my wife, if she'd let me."

Have a good night!

It seems to be a device from TOM Racing to open the 180km/h speed limiter in Japan.

But maybe it opens up all speed limiter !?
