Question Cold Weather Pre-Start Dilemma

Hi Everyone, I have a question that may have been answered already, but I can't find any info on the past posts. So here goes: Before I go to work on these cold mornings, I like to start my '08 ES350 to get the windows defrosted and to get the interior warmed up prior to leaving the house. I would like to start the car, set the defrosters and heat settings, get out of the car, lock it while it is running go back in the house for a short time and then exit the house unlock the running car and leave for work. I thought that with the electronic key fob this would be easy. The only thing is after exiting the car with the motor running and the key fob out of the car, I can't lock the car.
Is there a way electronicaly or manually to acomplish this?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Guys!

If the 08 is the same as 07, there is info here...

get a remote starter, if the car is out in the ice and snow you will love it, once you have it on the car you will wonder why you did not get it sooner.

Start the car while your drinking your coffee watching the news instead of running outside.

Here is to reviving an old thread...

I have this EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I don't want my car to get stolen while I am warming it up and hop back inside the house. The car keeps unlocking itself when I try to lock it with the car running and am outside the car with the FOB. Makes no sense really.

Any solutions to date?

The only way is to manually lock it from the door with the actually metal key. (what a pain!)
My husband and I just had this same conversation yesterday..
