I have a 2007 RX350 and I have a noise in the front at cruising speeds of 40-50 mph. The lexus dealership said that it is my front passenger wheel bearing and it is $1,200 to fix it. I know i can buy the hub and the bearing for just under $200 so can anyone tell me how to replace it? I am pretty mechanical but have never attempted this job before. Can anyone send me a video link or give me a step by step on how to replace it and what tools I will need? I have basic tools, but no press. I have read it is easier to just replace the whole hub and not try to replace the bearing due to needing a press. help!!

if you have a second car, i would simply just buy the bearing.

get everything apart and take the parts in your other car to a shop and have them press it for you. the labour charge will be minimal. and quite possibly much less than a new hub/spindle.

THe hub is around $360, but that is without the bearing....Kiwi has the cheapest solution above, The bearing can be a pita to remove from the hub...You need a 12 ton press....

How much would it cost to get just the bearing replaced at a non-Lexus suspension shop? With a non-genuine part?

It would probably be good to do both the front bearings at the same time.

You are looking ay about a 400 - 500 dollar job for both sides.

You can simply take the part to most any machine shop or even mechanic shop and they can press in and out the bearings if you ant to do the work yourself. The bearing is about 60 bucks IIRC.

Cost is about $50 for a Timken wheel bearing and about the same again to have a new one pressed in. Would talk to the shop in advance. Just do not walk in with the items in hand asking for them to drop what they are doing to do this and have cash.

the other one could last a very long time. not only that, but you are not saving any time or money by doing it for the sake of a random poster.

wait til it goes bad, you may never need to touch it.

kiwi is correct in my opinion, the right front wheel bearing goes out often because the wheel hits the curb or is otherwise damaged, the left much less so. my lexus dealer in seattle did the right front at 80K miles on my 2006 400h for $400, covered by my extended warranty. they put it on the lift and checked both sides with a stethiscope to verify where the whine noise is coming from, the left side was fine. the NC dealer that wants 1200 is crazy, also check with a toyota dealer many will work on lexus and they have the same parts that fit the toyota highlander hybrid. it is the same vehicle mechanically.

So the right one is bad and makes a lot of noise, I can get the hub and bearing already pressed in. Does the hub have to be pressed into/onto axel or anything? Tire kingdom says it has to be pressed on and requires 4 hours labor. I am doing the brakes and if I can do the hub at the same time and jut bolt on like the back it would be easy.
