Default Will the GS get an 8-speed for 2014?

I'm wondering if any rumors are floating around about a new 8-speed transmission for the GS next year. There is great speculation that the IS350 will be getting an 8-speed for 2014 and it would make sense that they would not leave the GS350 out.

who knows, it will work in the IS since the IS is a sportier car, but GS owners might not want a car that's constantly searching for gears, so maybe just in the F-Sport version?

when the GS350 F-Sport came out, Lexus said the 6 speed auto was better suited for the car, so we'll see if they backtrack.

I doubt it.
Maybe with the mid cycle refresh in '15/'16.

over over drive to save gas makes sense for cars with high torque (v8).

Yes,you're probably right.
The 8 speed will come with a updated V6 or GS-F V8.

Here's an analogy: The 2013 Lexus GS 350 is to the 2014 Lexus IS 350 as the 2012 Nissan Maxima is to the 2013 Nissan Altima.

I really don't understand what the big deal is? The car performs beautifully with the 6-speed AT. I think pretty much everyone here who owns one is ecstatic with the performance. Seems more like "bragging rights" than a real benefit to me.

Yes I agree, as the car does better with 6 I think vs 8 wasn't that a complaint for the IS-F too many gears.

I came out of an GS460 that had the 8 speed. The car was super smooth but when I floored it there was always a lag and it never seemed to get in the right gear for quick acceleration. Now, If I put it in manual mode is was a different animal! I have to say that the new F Sport is really quick as a 6 speed with 300 hp. I LOVE driving this car and I've had a lot of sports cars to compare it to. I remember someone mentioning a tranny that would be 6 unless you switched it to ECO mode then it would go 8 speed for increased gas mileage. That might be cool but what we want is a GS F! The handling in this car can definitely handle a lot more HP!!!
