The other day my 97 SC400 started running rough at idle, stalling etc. While poking around I noticed the resonance chamber that is supposed to be attached to the under-side of the intake tube had broken off.
When I removed it I saw that it had previously been broken off and glued back on with silicone sealant. I removed this chamber and installed a block-off plate. The car seems to run fine ( no rough idle, stalling etc.) and the power seems to be as before.
***Edit-This is the small resonance chamber above the passenger side valve cover, not the one attached to the air filter box ***
Does anyone know of a downside to removing this device? So far it seems to be no different than when it ran well before.
Regards,
M.R.
