Just keeps stalling. It was giving me a hard time starting. Took it to Advance to check out the battery and showed that it needed to be replaced. Replaced it and car now won't stay idling. Starts fine and will drive ok, as long as you keep your foot on the throttle to 1000rpm. Otherwise, it immediately stalls.

Is this normal? Is this related to the anti-theft system or the relearning by the computer?

I've never seen this before.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES
- All models equipped with Electronic Throttle Control System (ETCS).
CONDITION
- The vehicle may be difficult to start or have an abnormally low or rough idle after the battery has been disconnected or power to the Engine ECM has been interrupted.
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Inspect the throttle body for excessive deposits.
- Clean deposits using a rag that has been sprayed with Throttle Plate Cleaner.
- Once the cleaning is complete, allow the engine to idle for at least 3 minutes after reaching full operating temperature.
NOTICE
Do not spray cleaning chemicals directly into the throttle body. The solution can carry contamination through the throttle shaft and damage the throttle motor or position sensor.

This is a little embarassing. I think that in my case, it might have been a vacuum line that got knocked lose during the install. I was working on swapping the valve cover gasket last night when I saw a disconnected vaccum line. Ummmm..... maybe?

It's normal with Camry's and this ES. The idle on the ECU is super low now that it has been reset. Give it a week or two with more aggressive accelerating driving style so that the RPM's will adjust accordingly. Until then, stikc it in neutral if you have to and give it a little gas. Mine wolld sometimes idel below 1,000RPM on one of the minimum lines.

I have bumped a vacuum/airflow sensor tube beofe and I noticed nothing haha. Probably not that.

It sounds like the car just needs to do a re-learn.

All of my Toyota/Lexus' have always idled a bit low once warmed up. My RX idles at around 650-700 rpm, it should be around 750 rpm according to the service manual, but my RX has always been like that. And, yes I've already cleaned the TB, IACV, MAF. My ES also idles at the same rpm when warm.

My beater Accord is terrible when it comes to the idle speed. It idles at 450 rpm most of the time. I swear it's going to stall someday. But, whatever it's a beater for a reason.

clean the throtle body with ashop rag not paper ones and use throtlebody cleaner spray and disconect the negative side after your done cleaning drive the car for about 10-14 m with the a/c on that will help your car to re-learnd its idle if that dont work you mite need to take it to dealer to have them hookup a tech/scanner to re-learn

I'm fine with the way it idles, it's very smooth. The RX has been that way since new, same with my uncle's RX.

Unbelievable. I tried to just drive it just to get it to relearn. But that didn't work, or get better. So, I sucked it up and took the throttle body apart and cleaned it. Started the car up and it ran like a top! Awesome!

Check the vacuum hose and electrical connectors. You probably disconnected something when replacing the battery.

I thought it was a vacuum hose, but it was definitely the throttle body. Cleaned and running perfect now.

hmm, very similar issue with my 93. I disconnected NEG terminal to remove my cluster and replace bulbs. cluster is still out. my wife took car and had several stall issues this AM.Will putting cluster back in solve this, or do I need to clean throttle body?

will CarbMedic work as a good cleaner? (I've used that product in many other applications and found it very good).

I also need to replace both valve cover gaskets, so should I wait and clean it then?
