I've always had a problem with my e-brake on my 2010 is250 awd that I purchased new. The e-brake barely holds the car on an incline unless you put the pedal all the way down to the floor. I noticed other IS' that I've driven to have very strong e-brakes. The pedal itself feels much more stiff.
I've asked my dealer to look at this problem many times and all they do is tighten it a few clicks and they tell me it's in spec. Finally, I asked them to compare with a different IS that they had on the lot. Of course it was a night and day difference. They kept my car for a few days and I got a call saying it's because my 2010 ebrake system is different. It's just how the newer ones are designed and that it's normal to have to push it all the way down to the floor to hold the car.
He said the 2009 and lower models have different e-brake systems and that's why mine feels different. Can anybody confirm this?

My 2008 is the same way. Had the dealer adjust it about 6 months ago but it didn't really make any difference. I bought the car brand new and it has always been this way.
If I had to use it to stop for some reason, there is no way it would stop the car.
my 07 really tight, my roomate's 2011 feel loose, but I think they hold it like the same
Yeah... every other older IS that I've tested is real tight but my 2010 is pretty loose.

Strange that yours is an 08 and the same... it seems all the 2010 and up are loose.

Dealer adjusted it and said it's in spec. But we hopped in another IS and it was a night and day difference so he kept it another few days to check it out. He said it's because the pre-2010 had different E-brake systems. Not sure if this is true or not.

I've driven a couple other IS's and it was the same way....so I figured that's just how it was lol
I've noticed the opposite. All other IS' that I've driven have been significantly more tight.
Must push pedal all the way down when down/up hill. I always turn wheels in/outward.
What I really don't like when car parked up/downhill and put in gear, there is clank sound coming from transmission. Gear (R/D) doen not go in smoothly. I hate it!!
on my 2010 is250 RWD.... it needs to be ALL THE WAY down to hold the car.

Good to know I'm not the only one! Doesn't make sense. Can anybody confirm what the dealership said about the e-brake systems being completely different pre-2009?
Also, it's not good to have your car stopping on your parking gear. My dealer actually said to me why should i be so concerned?? Nobody uses E-brakes anymore. lol
