Default 2jzgte VVTI swap and emissions obd2 questions??

So guys what is it about the 2jzgte swaps that make it not pass smog. Does the obd2 port still work? Visual is pretty easy to fool in NV, its just the obd2 ports that Im worried about. Has anyone here done a swap that was smog legal? What does it take? Or just go NA-T?

The GTE-VVTI ECU is NOT OBDII, it is JOBD. It will not pass your plug in checks.

The options have been discussed here quite a bit if you search for it. You can go NA-T, or GTE single and run the GE ecu+piggyback, or you can try to run both ECU's together if you want to keep the twins.

Jeff is the member here that has worked though the issues of keeping it ok for inspections. My state doesn't have any visual or OBD checks so I luckily haven't had to deal with it at all.

Jeff doesn't use the VVTI GTE ecu I don't think, he runs a standalone so if the OP was looking to just do a "plug and play" swap it's not going to work as you mentioned. The OBD port no longer works and will fail to connect when they connect to it, I'm sure the potential is there to get it to read (basically match up the signals from the USDM GS and the Aristo) and connect the appropriate pins to whatever they need to see but this would require some diligence to make work. If you wanted the easiest route and emissions are a big concern then I would go NA-T. But again, as 99GS said, you can check with Jeff and see what setup he has going on.

^^^ Correct, from what I've seen Jeff does not use the GTE ECU.

He has built so many different configurations it is hard to keep track, but I believe his builds that have full emissions and OBD2 functionality are GE ECU's running AEM FIC.

You didn't, I was agreeing with you. As you said...it won't work.
