1997 ES 300 Radio LCD burned out
I love my 1997 ES 300. The LCD display of the radio burned out. The dealership priced to replace the whole radio for $707.00. Is there a step by step instruction how to repair it? After all the radio works fine but the LCD is necessary to operate the radio and the CD changer. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I just searched "LCD radio". An entire thread dedicated to it...

I lived with a screwed-up display in my '98 for more than a year (thinking replacement was too expensive) before I finally gave in and bought a new screen.
Putting it in was a piece of cake, thanks to the thread on this site. I was sorry I waited so long to do it.
This is where I bought mine, but I see it's not in stock now. (they expect to have them in a month, but maybe they will be getting harder to get in the future?):

I have a few that are from 2000 / 2001 models so they have the wood grain look. I might be willing to let them go for the right price. I am not sure what the going rate is and I don't need to get rich, but I hope to get fairly compensated to let them go.

I would not waste my time with replacing these lcds as they jsut burn out(at least in my experience). I bought the replacement lcd for $100 bucks and it blew out less than a year later. You can get a decent aftermarket radio installed for around $200, thats the route i went.

One thing I wonder is how does the new housing look with the new head unit.
It seems like most of the aftermarket installs look mediocre.

I had the same experience with my replaced LCD display. I haven't changed mine but would love to get a new head unit that can play mp3s and I can connect my iPhone or USB thumb drives.

Many Thanks to Ickey for the thread on replacement.
Cheers,
