Default GPS Navigation Update

Do you have to go to the dealer to update the Navigation?

I believe all you have to do is get the new dvd with the updated maps and switch it out with the one in your car. Its located under the passenger seat i think. Or the Driver's seat, i can't remember correctly.

See above: click on 'SPONSORS' find Sewell Parts & use the discount code.
I updated my disc when the 2008 disc came out. The player is under the front passenger seat.

I have a similar question. I just bought a 04 GX470. I have nav and rear dvd. Is there a way to load software or new menus to mimick the 05 GX or even later or can you just update the maps? Also, is there a way to get the DVD to play on Nav screen as well. Looking for some expertise as I'm new to this board. Thanks guys.

Oh, and also if there is way to "trick" the car into letting you type addresses in the nav while driving, super annoying.

fedsqx4:
Nav DVD upgrades usually only update the maps. Sometimes it may add 1 feature, but usually there are no new features. They never change the way the menus look (ie, to look like newer generation NAVs).

sick answered your first question.

2nd question: press Menu, then DVD in upper right hand corner.
Then Left upper, left lower, left upper, left lower, right lower (all blank areas)
Then hold Override until it highlights.

Must be done each time the car is started.

My dealer claims they recalibrate the nav as part of the new DVD installation procedure.

Anybody know if that makes any sense?

I have no idea what the dealer means by recalibration. I removed the old dvd and placed the new dvd.

I think there's a menu option for that, it just recalibrates the GPS locator, you can do it yourself I'm pretty sure.

It's embarrassing that dealers would charge for the "installation" which is the same as inserting a cd into the player.

The recalibration can be done yourself from within the menu I had to do it after my GPS tripped out from placing my xm unit underneath the antenna. Basically it is a little circle and u position it to your current position and direction takes like 30-45 seconds. The upgrade is as simple as inserting the new disk. The newest available is 8.1 I just got a copy of 7.1 but as it turns out now my truck maybe getting totalled by the ins company since there tired of fixing it again and again. If thats the case I will be selling the 7.1 disk for $100 that I got less then 2 weeks ago for $110 should know a little more in the next day or so.

Hi..

I remember I used to be able to do this BEFORE I upgraded to version 9.1 by doing that in the Volume area. I just tried your sequence and no luck.

Anyone?

Thanks...
