Bought my 2011 RX 350 on December 23rd and so far I have 1500-2000 miles on it. I am only averaging 17.5 mpg and this frustrates me considering that 75% of my miles driven are highway miles.

I called my dealership and they told me the engine is just breaking in and the mpg should improve. They also said it will improve as the weather up here in Minnesota warms up.

Is this information correct? If so, how many miles do I have to get to until I see my average mpg after refueling get over 20 mpg. Not much to ask for since it is suppose to average 24 on the highway and that is where I drive the most.

Also, I burn Premium 92.

I have the same car and the same mileage. I tried regular gas and then switched to 89. Mileage immediately went up 2.5mpg. Next I will try 92. Right now I am getting 20-22 on highway and 19 around town.

I believe the claimed 24mpg combine highway/city is base on 60mph highway speed..
In real life, assume you drive around 70-75mph on highway..you are more likely to see 20mph combine for awd and 21mph for fwd..

At 5,800 miles, my AWD is averaging 18.4. I usually get around 21-22 MPG on the highway and 16-17 in the city. I use Shell V-Power almost exclusively.

In addition to your vehicle not being broken in, gas mileage will also be affected by extreme variations in weather as mentioned by dealer, tire pressure, and driving habits. I check my tire pressure frequently.

I have 1 K miles just took a road trip on the highway I got 26 mpg averaging 50-70 mph mostly around 70. Around town I'm avg 16-17 but I do a lot of short trips

I just bought a 2011 RX 350 that now has about 1200 miles on it. This is my third RX. I previously owned a 1999 and a 2004. I love the ride of the car, but my milage for all highway driving has been between 15 and 17 mpg. This is with mid grade gas and driving around 65 mph. This is with 2 people and a couple suitcases in the vehicle (maybe 500 lbs total). Previous RX's have gotten 19 mpg or more for the same exact driving. I'm going to bring the car to the dealership next week. Any thoughts?

I have a new 2011 RX350 FWD with a little over 1000 miles on it and just finally got around to checking the gas millage this last week. I really didn't have much faith in what the dash screen was telling me, and all my gas millage checks on all previous cars have been computed at the pump with how much I put in vs how many miles I had driven.

After adding gas last night and dividing it with miles driven, I had 22.7 mpg with about 3/4 highway (70-80 mph) and the other 1/4 in town, stop and go with traffic.
Now on the dash, it was telling me that I averaged 22.8 mpg. That is only 1/10 difference than I computed. I was somewhat surprised to see that the two were that close.
I will continue to watch this as the car breaks in to see if it gets better, and I am assuming it will. The temperature during this was in the low to mid 30's and driving in Atlanta.

Just made 4K on my 2010 AWD. I too have been surprised at how accurate the mpg display is. I check at each fill up and it is always very close, not like my 4 Runner which was about 2 mpg off. So far according to the computer, overall I have averaged 19.5 mpg. 3/4 is city driving and very short trips. I am easy on the gas pedal but once in awhile on the freeway I lay in on it. I love the lack of shift shock.

I have recently seen a slight increase in the mpg as I think it is breaking in.

Here In IL, and probably in other cold weather areas too, gas mileage goes down when the retailers switch to winter blend gas. There are articles about it each season in the local/regional auto press.

I'm taking a 1300 mile trip this week and will be recording miles and gallons. My new 10 RX has about 2700 miles on it now. I'll try to remember to post the mpg when I get home.

2011 with 4,000 miles. We get about 20mpg with mixed freeway and around town on 87. I see no difference when using 91.

MPG is subjective to individual. I have AWD with 19k on odo and have averaged anywhere from 14mpg [driving in NYcity/DC] to 24 mpg [driving 65-70mph]. my typical mpg is 19-21 in combine driving and usually average 22mpg driving 80mph on highways. the way I drive on NE highways during winter months, 22mpg is best average compare to any SUV i have owned in the past.

Just filled up with 17 gals of premium which I always use. Constantly get 22 MPG in the PACKERLAND winters & get 27+ in the summer.
But at $3.22/gal. it sure adds up fast. Will be test driving the new CT 200 to see if that is for us, size wise & power wise too.
