Yes, it is free by way of a paperclip. Do some searching...

I always prefer the OBD code readers over jumping any wires. Auto Zone has an OBD1 code reader, but I think it costs more than the OBD2 code reader. Go to any auto parts store and I'm sure they all carry some sort of code reader for OBD1.

For $200+ I would rather use a paperclip

Although I do have an OBDII scanner...

Default Code Reader or wiring info for 92 ES300 Data Link

Anyone found something other than a human to count the light blinks? I have an AutoXray XP240 ODB1 scan tool with cables for GM and Chrysler but none are available that I know of for Toyota which has a round data link connector. I no longer use the OBD1 scan tool as my current cars use the newer OBD11 scan tool that I also have.

Anyone have the wiring information that I could use to make up a three wire cable to solder to the pins of one of my XP240 cables so I could use it to read the codes on the Lexus? Would that work?

It's not that hard to count blinks. Just short TE1 and E1 count blinks, then search on the internet what the blinks stands for and that's it.

Smile Counting Blinks

Yep, I know, I have done that before on an old Chevy until I bought an OBD1 scan tool. The service manual section on Engines has all of the codes and trouble shooting charts. Also, the service manual shows the Lexus Techs to use a special service tool to short the pins, actually just a piece of wire with pins on the ends, better than a paper clip, right?

haha this guy i work with at the buick dealership in town today i asked him for some wire he was like for what, and i told him i was checking my cel 90 ls400 and he said use my tool. and handed me a piece of wire with 3 pieces at the ends to check cel and abs and track and airbag light i literally started laughing since i know it was like a dollar tool and he has a 10000 dollar tool box . sorry i just found it funny that such an important tool could be that cheap but a commonly used tool cost .25 cents.
