Default 460 vs 470 which to buy ?

I am trading in my GS350 AWD and trying to decide should I go with a used 470 08 or 09 or a used 2010 460 looking used vs new because I need to get into a vehicle for under 50K. Any thoughts from you guys I know many of you have owned both models.

I traded my 2006 GX 470 for a 2010 GX 460.

The main advantage the 470 has over the 460 is the price.

If you don't mind spending close to your 50k max, then I'd go with the GX 460. It gets better gas mileage, has updated interior & exterior styling, and has some technology bells & whistles that are not available on the GX 470.

I got a new GX with Nav, Comfort package, Convenience package, Hitch, remote start for 55k with taxes, fees, etc.... So for a little over $50k you can have very nicely equiped new GX460. With a lower interest rate on a new vehicle when finishing the last payment you will end at the same point as a used. Also they have additional $1000 off loyalty if you finance. So the gap can be even closer.

With the additional $1000 off you should be able to get the GX below invoice without any problem.

Go for the 460. My parents have a 470 and I have a 460. There is a noticeable difference in the power and "get up and go." The smaller engine packs a bigger punch for better fuel economy. The interior of the 460 is much more luxurious. The cooled seats are great for long trips in warm weather. The middle console area is considerable larger in the 460. And if you are like most guys the 3rd row is almost meaningless unless you have small children. In the 460 they fold flat and in the 470 they fold up and to the side. My parents just pulled them out all together.

If you are able to find some new 2010 models they will take a large chunk off sticker making 50k more attainable. Good luck shopping. Either way they are both great vehicles.

You should also post this question under the GX470 to get more opinons.
GX460 definetely has much nicer interior while the GX470 seems pretty outdated,
but the 3rd row fold down seat took away too much of interior space on the GX460, but at the same time the 08/09 GX470 are still in the 40K range which I think is high enough to consider for the next gen GX.....

If you can get a 2010 Premium in your price range, get that. I traded in a 2004 GX470. Though I don't feel a big difference in power, the extra gear in the GX460 is nice. It was a long wait for the gen 2 GX with HID, Park Assist, integrated iPod and larger factory wheels. The GX470 was black/black because it was one of the few trucks that my dealer got with KDSS. I really like the colors on the GX460 so much better. IMO, the exterior is also better looking. A decent sized console was most welcome. I wish there was an option not to have the third row seat. I had the third row seats removed on the GX470 the day it was delivered. The extra four inches hasn't bothered me so far and I do use the rear window access.

I am also in the same boat as ejvette, I have a 2009 bmw 528i fully loaded that I would trade in, I do like the new look of the 2010 gx 460, but i want to stay a bit lower than the 50's . I found a 2009 gx470 blue with 10,000 miles almost fully loaded, only missing the rear dvd, but I am wondering if I would maby be able to find a demo 2010 gx 460? does anyone know of any? Any and all help will be appreciated!
Thanks,

Well, You can get the 09 for about $40000, but if Your price point is around 50 thousand, it is better to go for 2010 model.
You should be able to find a nice 10 Gx460 with very few miles on it.
The first place to look at is Your local dealership, Also dont forget to check Auto trader.
Good Luck in Your search for the GX and keep us posted.
Thankyou.

I forgot to mention this but it is a very important point to consider.
GX460 is a newly redesigned vehicle, new shape, more luxurious interior appointments, and it will bring You more money when You are ready to trade, as compared to the GX470, which will look more outdated in the coming years.
Both of them are outstanding vehicles. Why not, They are LEXUS.
Thankyou.

jaymk, thank you for all of your input, there is nothing at my local dealership as far a used, and honestly nothing worth looking at new. But about 20 minutes away they have a 2011 gx460 satin cashmere metallic. Msrp: $58,695, nicely loaded and has everything i am looking for, he is willing to give it to me for $54,695. Any thoughts on that? I feel it is very good for a 2011 especially. Also there is a 2010 460 claret mica with 9,000 miles for $51,500. Originally was 59,000 msrp. But, it is in MD, not too far from PA but not 20 minutes away like the new one. I am wondering for 3 more grand if i should go with the 2011 brand new

Also for what I am getting for my trade, I decided I am not going with a 2009 used, I am going to consider a 2010 new or used and a 2011 new. Just an update! Thanks

Good Decision to go with the newer body style!
If its a difference of only $3000, I think it is better to go with the 2011 model.
I still think, You should be able to locate one for right around $50000.
If I find something that interests You, I will definitely let You know.
Thankyou.
