SC430 Navigation Upgrade
I have a 2002 SC430. It still has the original navigation disk in it. V 01.
Can I upgrade directly to V .09 or do I have to do it in steps?
I did purchase a ver.09 from eBay, however, when I installed it, it did show V .09, however, it wouldn't let me pick any destinations. After reading your site about eBay, I removed the disk and re-installed the original and everything worked fine again.
I didn't want to spend the money for another disk to find out I do have to upgrade in steps. I don't know why the other disk would not function correct, however, it was and appeared to be an original Toyota Disk for gen 2/3.
Last, how is "Carson Toyota OEM Online Parts Center?" They are selling the navigation upgrade disk to Generation 2/3 Version 09 for $180 delivered.... I take it since they are a dealer and they are stating it's the same disk for either Toyota or Lexus it would be safe to buy from them? Correct?

I recently updated my 2002 SC430 from its original factory nav disc to ver. 9. The software came from the local dealer at retail cost (argh) but there were zero issues with it. You just put the disc in the slot and the process starts. Couple of notes - the infamous override is still there, so that's a good thing; however, for those hoping for the same coverage and quantity of POIs in later generations, keep in mind that the hardware on an SC430 this old is uses a single layer DVD. so it's much less comprehensive than say, what I received in my '06 ES. Hope this helps.

Swapping pie pans for 5 star center
On the SC430 wheel is it just a matter of unscrewing the hex nuts to replace the pie pans or is there an adapter plate I need to get the 5 star style to mount. Thanks

Lead Lap
Press menu
then press system option
when the option screen appears
touch the top left corner of the screen,
bottom left corner
top left corner
bottom left corner
bottom right corner
but there is no "system option" available in version 9.1. What did you do different?

For Harold57 - that's exactly what I did. My version is 9.1, factory DVD. What I did find is that it was fairly sensitive to position when touching the screen. If I stayed close to the corners I got better results. Depending upon your screen calibration you may have a different situation.

So what do you press for System Option? I don't have a System Option available on v9.1.

On my unit after pressing "Menu" the "System Option" button is on the far right side of the display. My nav disk is an OEM Toyota/Lexus P/N PT219-GEN23-09. Yours also?

Found it. Yes, I have version 09.1.
It doesn't show "System Options" on mine but does have a DVD option, as mentioned above. Press "DVD" and then go through the procedure. So for me the procedure is:
Press menu button
Press "DVD"
When the DVD screen appears:
touch the top left corner of the screen,
bottom left corner
top left corner
bottom left corner
bottom right corner
Then the service screen appears with multiple options, including "Override". Press "Override" and then "Back".

Trouble with buying a used update is getting the proper generation match. When you purchase from a dealer they ask a number of questions. I did an upgrade last year for my 2003 w/o a hitch. Just shop for the lowest retail price....believe I went through Sewell

Bought mine through Sewellpartsonline too. My 02 also had the original disk. I checked their chart and upgraded to 9.1. The only issue was the disk defaulted to the DC geographic region (9) on setup so I had to reset it to the California region (2), which took about 3 seconds.

U.S. vehicles equipped with the Lexus Navigation systems come with maps covering the 48 contiguous United States and contain freeways, highways, and city streets that were included with the map software at the time the vehicle was built. Lexus offera optional map updates each Fall, so it may be worth waiting a few months to see if there will be 2010 update.

Last year (2009), the new DVD came out in September, I believe.

I have the Toyota, not the Lexus 9.1, upgraded from 1.2, no problems, over ride works fine. Burned a copy of it, for safe keeping of the original, DVD+, DVD-, copies don't work in the earlier models.
