I have an 2001 Ls430 79 k miles on it. went to jiffy lube and had the oil change,transmission flush, differential fluid changed, air filter changed. anyway after I had the service done my check engine light came on along with my VSC light. so took it back to jiffy Lube so they could put the reader on it so they could reset the codes. he did not know how to do it? after he unhooked the reader the red Exclamation light came on. I know the code says its an O2 sensor but I think it had something to do with the work done at jiffy lube. while Lexus dealers want big cash just to look at it. any ideas ? anybody know any fair Lexus Mechanics in the Van Nuys area ? I want to turn off the warning lights. Thanks.

Hey buddy, you may be surprised how SOME dealerships that sell Lexus' will work with you. This situation requires Professional help. I myself say go to a Lexus dealer for the peace of mind. That said, I dont live in Cali but, Im sure if you check the Yellow Pages many Lexus certified mechanics with independent shops are there. Cali is BIG and should have several mechanics who have experience with your car type and ALL Lexus and Japanese makes all together!

In my experience in Virginia(Norfolk/Va Beach area) you have to be more cautious of independent dealers as much as you do BIG name dealerships like Lexus! I find some independent dealers are honest but, some are misleading. Also, what one guy does for another doesnt mean he will do for you! Relationships take time to build buddy. May cost more to go to a Lexus dealer for service but, they have more to lose if they do bad biz. I hate the price but, love the peace of mind and they tend to repair what mistakes they make faster without a hassle! L.G.N.M

Oh, Best of Luck and Hope you find a honest independent buddy. If not at least ask in person a Lexus dealership to take a look but, ask what they will charge 1st and dont be afraid to ask for a price break. These hard times are all over the USA. So dont be shocked if the cut you a break fellow member! L.G.N.M

Once you change the 02 sensor checkengine light should go out. Cause i had the same problem before. As far as the vsc light theres a thread on this forum for reseting it and it really works, haven't had a problem since.

Why exactly did you take an LS to Crappy Lube???? AND to make it worse you had them do a transmission flush, differential fluid changed and air filter change??? Are you crazy?? Why not just hire the bum on the side of the road to work on your car??

i had the same issue sometime back and it exactly happened the same way after i got my oil service done and then i took my car to a lexus specialist and the checked with the reader it said 02 sensor and so i had to replace it and its all fine now

Hey Fred buddy, I feel you on not going to Lexus dealer(the economy is crazy right now, and I though of a switch), I do go to Lexus service but, see why most don't. Price!!! Yes, they can be costly so I suggest fellow member to fellow member you start your own search for a certified guy/gal that can work on your Lexus. Meaning you find a person who knows exactly how to work on Lexus and other Japanese makes. Some guys that used to work for Toyota and Lexus and other dealers run or work at independent shops. Look around before your next service or repair need so when its time to go in for work on your LS430, you already done your homework.

The worst to do is to go to a dealer when you need it then without having did research buddy. The good thing is there are more good people than bad. You should soon find a good reliable and somewhat honest car specialist for you and build a lifelong relationship with them were they know you and you know them(especially what they charge and how long they take to do repairs with there ability to locate parts and get them shipped for services and repairs)!

Relationships with those who fix our cars a critical because our cars are a BIG part of our livelihoods! Also, those who think he was crazy to go to Jiffy Lube or wherever he/she went, be NICE, we all make bad decisions. What defines us is when and if we try and correct them. This member obviously is attempting to do so.

Lets show members support as we would like to have. Honesty is cool but, be sensitive to other peoples emotions. Treat members like they were your family or close friends not just names with words. There are souls and spirits behind these words. I forget that at times myself,hahahahaha! L.G.N.M

Thanks for all your advice fellow drivers. the reason I went to jiffy lube because the guy who worked there has an Is model. he said he knew how to work on Lexus. well live and learn.

I had the same issue with the VSC or VSC off Check VSC light. Here's what you need to do. I used to work for Lexus and I own a 02 LS430. You need to jump the TS and the CG connector from your OBDC under the dash by the steering column. Take a paper clip and put both ends as shown on the picture below. Make sure ignition is off when you put the jumper on then turn key on (dont start engine just turn it on all the way.) then you will see a message: vsc test and all the lights flashes (abs, cel etc...) then turn key off then remove the jumper and start the car and take it for a ride. You should get the VSC light removed! Have any problems just message me.

I can vouch for that procedure. Wait a minute or 2 before turning the key off to let the system reinitialize everything.

My VSC light came on when I connected a non-Lexus OBD2 scanner to find the code when I had a CEL (it was P0155, failed O2 sensor heater). I reset the VSC light using that procedure.

I have mentioned this before..go online and check your local lexus dealer for service specials. Where I am its 39.95 for the lube oil filter. Just for the peace of mind its worth it to me.

I can second the recommendation to never ever take your car to any kind of jiffy-quiky-cheepo-whatever-lube. These business hire only lowest/minimum wage folks so they get only zero skill technicians to do the work.

Unless you want your Lexus be a learner car for Joe "this is my first day" Mechanic, I suggest you take your car instead to a high quality independent that has ASE/ISO certified mechanics, or take it to Lexus/Toyota dealer - even for simple stuff like oil changes.

Only take a domestic low-end car to such a place like Jiffy lube. I took my old 5 series to get the oil + filter changed at Midas (which wasn't much cheaper than the dealership...) and they had a hell of a time trying to get things off and back on. I don't blame their skill level, rather their lack of tools for foreign cars. Most ppl in the US still drive domestics (why I will never understand...see sig lol) so these places normally just prepare for the majority of the cars they see.

While we can debate the skill level of Jiffy Lube techs all day (and some of the shops do have some good people who genuinely care), there are some cold hard facts anyone considering doing so needs to consider... first and foremost being that Jiffy Lube to the best of my knowledge does not carry Toyota WS tranny fluid and likely has something rated as "compatible". In the case of WS, my understanding is "compatible" isn't good enough, and this is reason enough for me to take my car to the dealership for a trans service even if I might let Jiffy Lube do the actual engine oil change itself.
