Power Steering fluid change 2005 RX330
How often you supposed to change the power steering fluid? I currently have 48K miles on it and have never been changed.
Thanks..
Thanks..

I believe it is suppose to be lifetime but all fluids eventually break down or just go bad. I bought a syringe that has a short plastic tube on the end of it from an auto parts store and draw out as much fluid as I can. At 48K miles, you will see that the fluid is brown and the new fluid is red. You won't be able to get all the fluid out so that's why I do this every year. The biggest pain of this is to remove the plastic cover over the reservoir since they use one time use fasteners.

I changed mine around the same mileage. Instead of using power steering fluid I used the remaining synthetic automatic transmission fluid. I'm good for 100K miles. I hope this helps

I do the same. Suck it out and fill up. have done it 8x since owning the RX. The fluid is pinkish-red now. So looks like it is OK. I suck-fill evey oil change, ~ 6 months.

So what have you've been doing about the plastic cover on the passenger side that needed to be removed? Keeping it off, reusing the fasteners, using new every time or has anyone modified this to use reusable fasteners?

When I bought the car (pre-used) I left the cover off since I wanted to drain and fill for at least 4x, until I get the pink-red color to the fluid. Boy it was BROWN.
It will be nice to replace the fasteners with something quicker to take off and put on. It is such a hassle. In fact, we can just drop the clip and not even use the plastic bolt. Or get a snap on fastener from Ace Hardware. I will find a replacement and post it here.
I use an oil pump to quickly suck up the tranny oil. But the cleaning of the pump is 4x longer than the actual draining, what a pain. I still want an easier way of sucking up that oil...we shall persevere!

Now I actually got my friends hooked up to replacing their power steering fluid every oil change. The fluid costs so cheap. But it is nice to see pinkish color in the reservoir!

I went to Advanced Autoparts this weekend & found some reusable plastic fasteners for the plastic "beauty" cover. They look like this:
I found a site that sells these as well.: http://www.autobodysupplies.com/Plas...dy%20clips.htm

That's awesome! I have to pick up some. I already stripped at least one plastic screw!
