Default Timing Belt or Chain

Hi, just bought 2007 GX 470 and was wondering if it has a rubber belt or chain?

Currently have 79,000 miles on it

Thank you

I believe it's a timing chain.

Nope, timing belt. Belt needs replacement at around 90K miles.

Has anyone done the timing belt? How hard was it? I am a shade tree mechanic...

If not, how much was it to take in to the stealer?

Do a search on timing belt. There was thread about it. I believe it is about $1,200 at the dealer. I am a DIY, but that is a job I am planning to let the dealer do.

Wow, I dodged a bullet. My water pump was leaking and got down into the timing belt area. Sewell changed the timing belt for me under warranty while they were replacing the pump and radiator.

Timing belt, the next gen GX460 is the timing chain. The timing belt's aren't too hard because you have a fair amount of room to work with. With that being said, if your not comfortable with doing all the steps correctly, it's best to let someone else handle it. I think the hardest part for most people is getting the crack shaft bolt out.

Thank you all for your responses. Just got off my phone with Lexus and they said following: "Thank you for your patience while I researched your concern. Your vehicle is equipped with Timing Belt, the recommended time to replace it is at 90k or 108 months."

I meant the whole replacement job (labor + parts, including water pump).

The 90K does not involve changing the Water pump unless it is bad, As per the Service chart, it is only the V-Belt. Inspection is done while changing of the V-Belt, if other related components are faulty, otherwise they are good to go. My friend just completed 90k having plats warranty, they only changed the V belt, as all rest was good. Also changing the VBelt is max 15minutes job. Basic tools required to install the serpentine belt.

Nice to know. Thanks for clarifying. I thought I read a post you wrote about changing the timing, and it seemed complicated. I could be wrong. Maybe I'll give it a try when the time comes.

my quote at the dealer was over 700 for the t-belt package (water pump etc...) and about 500 for the 90k. Which would be around 1200.

If you're pretty handy then it shouldn't be a problem doing it yourself

Hopefully a future owner here....Ive done one on a 4.7 tundra so same motor and it wasnt a big deal. Obviously a few things will be different with the GX but shouldnt be too much different.

And do the water pump too if your there, no sense in going in that far and not doing it.

Looks like a nice Supra. Please post some pics. I think it should be OK, also made by Toyota.
