Default Dealership cost to replace all 4 brake pads?

I was wondering how much it costs you guys to change all 4. I got quoted about $350 for front, $350 for rear. Talk about a ripoff.

I was told $519 for front brakes alone. $1,900 for all rotors. $1,600 for new Bridgestone Potenzas.

Thats normal for most local shops. They will not just replace the brakes but usually will take the rotors out and resurface them.. I think their hourly is $95/hour plus parts so what they quoted you is about right... Yeah it is a ripoff but thats just the way it is at dealerships..... You can take the rotors at Kragen or Autozone and they can resurface them for you for $15 each. So if you are doing all 4, that'll be $60 plus the cost of pads which is another $100 depending on how much you want to spend on the pads alone.

That's about what I was told locally.

Nope, due to the cross-drilling they must be replaced. But WE ALL know that. Most people who answer the phone never seem to know about our rotors till the bill comes.

I called my local dealer they wanted $1600 to do the front rotors and pads.

I laughed and called around to dealers. The pads are about $300 for the front, each rotor is about $125. Scratching my head at their labor costs so...I'm DIY with my buddy on this project!

$1,600 sounds so pricey. Where do you get the rotors for $125.00?

Lightbulb

Fronts Pads MSRP = $380 -> I found them for $267
Rear Pads MSRP = $230 -> I found them for $162

Front Rotors MSRP = $282 each -> I found them for $198 each
Rear Rotors MSRP = $365 each -> I found them for $257 each

^^ The above are all OEM GENUINE Lexus Parts prices....

- Rear rotors cost more than the fronts!!

I wonder if the new 2010 LS460 Rotors fit???
They are running Brembos on them now as well....

But the rotors are not drilled out of course..

Click for enlarge

Where's "lobuxracer"...!!!??? I am sure he can find out about the new LS Brembos..

Regards,

Joe Z

Incorrect, cross drilled rotors can be resurfaced, however most places do not want to resurface them due to the fact that the drilled holes have a tendency to brake the tool (cutting blade) of their machine when they get caught in the hole.

Resurfacing of course is dependent on the thickness of the rotor and if it will still meet minimum spec after it has been cut. Many of the high performance braking systems these days match high friction pads to rotors that wear out at the same rate. There by after the pads are used up the rotors do not have enough thickness left for resurfacing and reusing.

The bottom line is it all depends on what the rotors measure out to.

Interesting. I was told by my dealer that the rotors were not "serviceable" and that replacement was the only option. Anyway, depending on the state of your rotors, you can replace the pads yourself in about an hour for each axle and choose the pads of your liking. The OEM pads are quite expensive and there are alternatives that might be suitable for you at substantial savings. Good luck!
