so you sussed these lights out? care to throw your solution/findings up here, just so in future if someone is doing a search they will find your answer 
with my advice, i meant to say you should be able to get them to work since they're designed for all years, but there is a difference as you found out so it isnt just as simple as plug and play from 98-00 to 01+ :P
