I think the IS-F is a logical next step. The 2010 model adds some different tidbits and a LSD! I've driven it on the track and its a complete beast and reviewers agree. Please ignore the ridiculous comments about it.
The XF is another good choice but its even bigger than the 550. Remember the next 5 series will debut in 2011 if you care about owning the newest thing around.
G37 sport sedan and the new M series is coming as well.
I am 100% for sure not keeping my IS350... I will turn it in the first week of December and I can wait several months before buying a new car as I have a few others cars to drive...
I'm considering:
1) IS-F
2) CTS-V
3) 550i
Anything else to throw in the mix? Remember, I can wait till spring/summer of next year, no problem...
Of course drive all three but if i had to pick I would go with the new CTS-V, there is something about a detuned corvette ZR1 motor pushing 550 hp easily modable to 600+ that i dont think any of your other options could touch ....
You like manual? This is the car for you! I'm loving mine, and it's not expensive, $22.3k OTD.
.
The Mazda 3 is a small car. The OP is looking for something a bit bigger than the 3 & IS-F to accomodate a small child. Oh, and the ride.. We don't want the OP to be accused of shaken baby syndrome now.. No ones word is golden here including mine.. The OP will have to get off the keyboard & test drive each of these cars..
The new S4 they have out is another idea. It has an excellent manual tranny but uhm, if you want an automatic, it doesn't have DSG (at least I don't think), it has the old Tiptronic.
I might have missed a post, but are you buying or leasing your next car?
Have not decided, I'm open to either option...

Is the new 5 series debuting next year as a 2011 model or it will debut sometime in the year 2011?
I think I'm leaning away from the IS-F simply because I want something different than my current IS350...
Uhm, perhaps you should test-drive the IS-F. I guarantee that you will find it much different from your IS350. I would personally stray away from BMW, regardless of if you're leasing or not. They're a headache.

Yes, I love Mercedes... I will add the C63 to the list... Good call...
The '10 5 series have already landed (test driving one Thu ) so I would assume that the new gen '11's will be out in actual year 2010.
I may be mistaken, but I thought you were looking for something bigger than your IS. As much as I love my F and the C63, they are both smallish cars.
I would suggest the E series, 5 series or CTS-V. You didn't state a price range, but the next gen M5 is rumored to be a total beast. If Lexus ever gets around to making a GS F that will certainly get a long hard look as well.
BMW 5 Series FTW! Some memebers think its ugly???? That car is sexy!! Unless you are talking about the Gran Turismo. I saw one the other day and that thing is ugly.

CPO Lexus LS 460..... BALLIN. Drop some 22's on it and call it a day. Its a great looking car and they are relatively priced well and are reliable. Go for it
