That's completely subjective. A lot of classic cars do not use this design either.

Thing of the past? Tell that to Bentley, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Jaguar, BMW and Mercedes. I think wood is a classy interior accent in premium luxury motor cars and it's not something I expect to see disappear anytime soon.

when used tastefully, wood is nice, but an entire wood dash would not look correct.

notice the newer models.

old jaguar

new jaguar

aston

wood is too old-school. its not modern, which is why carmakers usually just use them as accents intead of themes

First of all, the current GX dash does not use a lot of wood. Secondly, wood is not used in more vehicles or in greater quantities because it's expensive not because it's not modern or luxurious enough.

As seen in some vehicles where wood use along the dash is minimal, I would argue that is more of a function of the design of the console/dash as opposed to a concerted effort to eliminate wood. The entire dash of the rolls is wood, BMW 7 series, mercedes E/S classes, yup and yup. There is more square feet of wood in these vehicles than there ever was in the GX. Think what you want, but wood is here to stay, if not on the GX it will continue to be found in all of the high end cars, if not standard it will be offered as an option at an additional cost.

I look forward to seeing one in person. From the photos, I'm not feeling the Nissan-looking steering wheel nor the metal-looking dash trim. Wood would be much better for the dash trim, IMO.

Well you can say that for alumimium or carbon fiber too, if you wrap the whole dash in those 2 material, it would look iver done too.

BTW, that Jaguar interior is amazing.

I personally dislike brushed aluminum. It's cold and cheap looking IMO. The LX interior has nice curves to the dash and so does the '05 GX, but the new GX dash is boxy looking and reminds me of the Jeep Grand Cherokee dash. I would however like to see the new GX inside and out to form a final personal evaluation.

The LX interior is not that much curvier. On the GX interior, look at the curvature at the top near the air vents and the curvature around the edges of the center brushed metal piece.

Also look carefully near the volume controls, and you see some curvature in the brushed metal piece.

Also because of the angle you cannot see that from top to bottom this metal (or metal-looking) piece is slightly curved.

As usual, people are overreacting based on one pic from a specific angle.

I was wondering if that was a cassette deck myself? I hope not!

I agree in that new GX picture it needs a little more wood
