there have been many, many times i thought about trading my 07 awd for an 06 or 07 350.....the car is slow, so i don't even try with the horsepower stuff, strictly for looks...when i got loaners while the car is in service, i just love the power of the es350, and that car has about what, 280hp? i could just imagine the is350...
oh well, maybe next year i'll seriously consider it, the only reason i didn't upgrade is just all the trouble of going thru looking again, not to mention i have a add a bit more money to it, and all the stuff i put on the car, especially the rims i just got..if i get the 350, i'd definilty need to get more aggressive rims..
Ok, I have owned BOTH, I started with an IS250, and thought it was the best car Ive owned, smooth, refined, power for passing................ Then I drove a IS350 for a day (by myself)
NOT a good idea for IS250 owners.
After that I sold my 250 and upgraded to the 350 and its been such a blast! I love owning the road and just flooring it puts me in a better mood...
Now the few downfalls.....
1. Gas mileage... I was getting average 26MPG with my 250, now my average is around 19.5MPG. I think I could get better mileage but its VERY hard to resist the pedal....
2. sometimes car is too powerful for my liking, I find myself driving in "snow" mode because I just can't drive it nice without it jumping off the line when i hit the gas, especially in traffic...very touchy! IS250 was much smoother
All in all, I am very pleased with my upgrade but sometimes I am just driving and think to myself did i really need to dump 4k more for just more HP?? ... and then I hit the gas and say "YEP"!
Ditto on your second point. I think the torque is too much on the first gear, traction control light came on too many times on the rainy days when I'm making turn a little quick. Although I do feel the car underpower in certain gear.
well i must say, i have a 08 is250! i got it when i was 18 so it was one of those that i wanted the 350 real bad but i knew i was going to get in trouble with it...so i ended up getting the 250 and i must say once its broken into u'll have some good fun with it ...but if i cud go back i wud had rathered go with the 350 with out nav appose to the 250 with nav ,... ehh i guess i would say go with the 350 but the 250 is NOT bad at allll

I use the "snow" mode when crawling in highway traffic jams. I hate to admit this, but I now force my wife to use it in the rain.
True story - the first winter I had my car, it had just started to rain (lighty) and there was a good mixture of oil and water on the road. My wife was driving and I was in the passenger seat. We just left the house and the tires were cold (OEM Dumlop Sport Maxx w/ about 8k miles). A half-mile way at a traffic light intersection to a major street, my wife was trying to make a left; and with the first chance she got, she decides to accelerate with no thought as to the wet road conditions. Well, the rears spun and traction control light started blinking (~3000rpm). Instead of easing off the throttle, she steps on the accelerator harder (now up to about 5000rpm) and did a nice power slide through the intersection all while the tractin control is beeping like crazy. I nearly wet my pants. When I asked her what she did, she looked at me blankly and said "well, the car didn't move fast enough, so I decided to step on the accelerator harder!"
Now I like to smoke the rear tires and power slide through a turn just as much as the next guy, but my wife has NO IDEA what she was doing or had done. The IS350 is so quite, that sometimes she forgets about all the power it has. That's the only time I thanked Lexus for putting an intrusive traction control on this car.
My wife -I love her to death- has no business in a RWD 300hp sedan.
Better gas mileage is false. They both have about the same average mpg when all is said and done. And the stickshift isn't anything to brag about, to say the least.
More money for mods I guess is a perk, not that there are many to begin with right now. The IS250 engine isn't as user-friendly as the JZ in the IS300 of yore.
All in all, the IS250 is relatively cheap luxury and I think that's why most of our younger members go for it.
lol its funny I was bout to post the same topic. Let me tell you my story. I got my 080 IS250 AWD bout 2 months ago. I got it used with about 15k miles from a lexus dealership here in VA. Before I got it I dint know about this forum or anything. My friend has a 250 and I really liked it so I got it. Then after joining this forum and reading and checking out alot of ISX50's I became more and more frustrated why I got a 250 instead of a 350. Then I went to dealerships thinking about trading mine for a 350 I looked for a GFM color. I wanted only that color cuz thats what I have now. Man this color is f'in rare. After 2 months I only found 1 near my dealership.
I wieghed my options, is spending roughlly~5k more for a trade in worth it. Is that 100hp worth it. I sit in rush hour daily and I dont think i will be looking for racers on the highway where we go 10mph.
After all my thinking it was not worth it to trade it now. If I am gonna trade it will be a IS-F in 4 years. I will trade it rite when my warranty will end. So I chose not to trade it. But I love my car its smooth, faster than most entry level cars. O i also have a motorcyle so speed is in my garage..lol. But my 250 is a sexy daily driver.
I got good deal for 250 end of 06 and there was no deal for 350 at the time, all sticker price so forget it. I didn't care about speed anyway, but still got speeding ticket few months ago lol. If I spent the same money in 06 now, I could have gotten a new 350 or a used F
because we wanted an AWD. But that means my gas mileage is similar to that of the 350 when i read in the other thread that some people were getting 400+ miles estimate with their 250 for a full tank of gas, i was like no f'ing way! but then realized its because of AWD vs RWD
i do kinda wish they had a 350 AWD lol But i don't think i would trade a 250 in for a 350 though if i already have the 250. like the previous poster, i think i'd wait to trade it for the is-f
