Minor correction: configured similarly there is a bit less than $9,000 difference between the invoices for the 2009 350 and 450h. The 2009 450h (if one can find it) can be had at invoice right now. I ordered 2010 450h at $1,000 over invoice; I would bet that majority of 350 buyers would pay a lot more relative to invoice. But I agree with your general comment that it is still a significant price difference.

As far as 460 vs 450h, there's only about a $2,500 difference in invoices when similarly configured. And it might be harder to get a deal on the 460 than on the 450h.

I thought there's less room for negotiation on the 450h because they are hard to find to begin with?! Anyways no doubt if I were looking at a 460 then I'd probably get a 450h.

i wouldn't think so. 450h and 460 imho are just about the same in terms of availability

gs350 starts with aprox. 35k, 460 - 45k, 450h - 55k. So there is almost a 20k difference b/w a 350 and a 450h. HMM, id rather get an ISF which is almost the same price as a 450h

you can't compare 450h to IS-F that way (price), both are totally different cars, it's like comparing apples to oranges.

Um... GS350 RWD starts at $45,000, AWD starts at $46,950, GS460 starts at $53,470, and GS450h starts at $56,550.

All data current on Lexus.com.

Where do you find a GS350 starting at $35k?!

err.... i think that's exactly a comparison...?

there are people who would spend 70k to get a m3, but for the same price a lot more people would prefer to get a larger 5 series. but there is no point to that

and gs350 starts at 35k? i really wish that's the case. similarly equipped gs350 and gs450h are definitely NOT 20k apart

One reason also not mentioned is the 450h was never a volume model. Only 2k for America and 5k worldwide. It was not meant to be a seller but a hybrid "halo" the first RWD luxury sport hybrid (and still is). There are still a lot of misconceptions with hybrids and to me, Lexus marketing hasn't been very good until the new HS ads of late. I still get asked "do you plug it in"

In the three years I've owned the 450h I have met only ONE person who has both heard of this car and was aware of its capabilities.

(2) The car is fairly expensive. Not compared to BMW 550i, but because of point (1) very few 550i shoppers will look at GS 450h. Very few GS 350 shoppers will look at 450h because of the large cost differential. However, a lot of them don't realize that 450h base model includes a lot of features that are optional on the 350.
Good post.

This is the truth. I've driven both at the track and they are completely different animals.

Does the 450h accelerate this quickly only if the battery is full? What if its half full? How to get it full?

Basiclly it charges while ure driving. The accelerating should be more quicker when at full battery. But then again the hybrids i drove for instance prius when u floor it off the line its turns gasoline engine on.

Rider, like someone pointed out your numbers are incorrect. The base 350 and 450h also have different set of standard equipment -- 450h has a couple thousand worth of extra stuff in it.

as long as there are juice in the battery and you floor it, the electric motor will work it's way to deliver until it's dry
