Snow tires are a must with this car, I tried all seasons tires for a couple months a few years ago and the car was worthless. Switched to yokohama snows and the car has never gotten stuck.
With decent snow tires, and use of the "Snow" mode, the GS does very well in the snow. Sometimes on slippery hill starts I wish the car was equipped with a LSD. Adding weight to the rear can have positive and negative effects ( I personally don't do it).
The red car usually is on factory 16" rims with Toyo winters, the silver one was riding on the 17" 5 spoke chromes with Blizzak winter tires for the last winter (purchased the car with winters mounted to these wheels, changing to 16" for this winter).
Caught off-guard on summers rims in the spring when it snowed....
Eagle F1 GS-D3 = useless in the snow, barely got it up the driveway and into the garage...

I agree, all-seasons are what I call "no-seasons". Get a spare set of rims (preferably 16") and decent snow tires and never look back.
Well I just picked up 4 225/45/17 Blizzak snow tires from a friend of mine that he used for his S2K for 1 season for $50.00 (for all 4). Two of them have about 65% tread left and the ther 2 have about 95% tread left(almost new)

great pick up man, wish I had snow tires, but I do have a winter beater
My neck of the woods didn't have much snow at all last winter when I bought my snow tires. So they sit in the garage waiting for next winter with my snow wheels.
Get a set of Michelin Pilot Exalt A/S 225/55/16 tires on a set of 16" wheels, and you will be set. I have had a great experience using them in up to 3"s of snow.
I am 16 and looking at what car to buy. I have found a 2000 GS300 for a decent price. My one concern is drivability in the winter. Since I live in northern NJ, the roads can get pretty slippery and I am unsure of the safety of having a rear wheel drive car in the snow. And is the IS300 also comparable to the GS300 in the snow? Thanks for any help!
go with front wheel drive. You're probably too inexperienced to drive in snow, yet alone with rear wheel drive. just my opinion. I'd get a beater at your age before a nice ride...

I'd agree with both points. I'm sure it's party jealousy, as when I was 16 years old I could barely afford a 1000$ beater, let alone an 8 year old Lexus... But yeah, get a beater for your first car, it's going to get beat up those first couple of years, and dings/crashes hurt a lot less when it's not a 10,000$ car.

Man, may first car was a brand new Eclipse and that was a huge mistake! To a certain extent, you just dont know how to take care of it I got lucky a couple of years later when I traded it in and got it paid off in the condition it was in... As a first car you just really dont know how to care about what happens to it. Yea, there are those who are born with the ability to take care of it, but only they know who they are, but for the most part you see kids just running the car down 'for fun', hell even a lot of adults still do it
