Default GS350 Clatter Noise Upon Engine Start

I have a 2007 GS350 that seems to "clatter" when I start the engine after it's been sitting for awhile. The clatter only lasts a couple of seconds but it's annoying....sounds like metal on metal. It does not happen when engine is cold or should I say first thing in the morning. It happens after the car has been driven, sat for a few hours and then the clatter occurs when I start the engine. This started a couple of weeks ago....I have 29,000 miles on it.

Took it to the dealer last week, the service rep told us that this is somewhat common and is due to the high pressure direct injection system on this particular engine. He also said this started when they switched from the GS300 to GS350. I'm wondering why it never happened before. The service rep said there's nothing they can do about it. It's kinda embarassing to have this happen on a Lexus....a relatively new Lexus with relatively low miles.

I've always used premium gasoline, got all my oil changes and maintenance done at the Lexus dealership thus far.

Anyone else out there having similar problems or solutions? Please share any information you may have.

that sucks.

it is common, esp with IS350. huge thread here https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...hreads-32.html

there is a TSB fix #EG020-07 for this problem. but not sure if it helps in the long run.

it's a pretty complex repair, and I don't think I'd let them do it on my car

the word is that the clatter is harmless... maybe. these toyota engines should be bulletproof

the one thing that is common among all of these lexus glitches is....... several months after you get it repaired, the problem comes back.

rattles, engine noises, broken side view mirrors..... all repeat problems.

I just don't even bother . it's not worth it.

i had the problem, and told them to check the noise 3 times. Today driving back the engine just died, towed to the dealer and they just told me something on the engine broke. I'm gonna call corporate very soon.

i had the same noise and believe me.......its freakin embarrassing!! i finally got the car fixed when they came out with above stated TSB. i took it to the dealer multiple times and they told me they couldnt hear it. a lot of the service writers are idiots. they drive Hondas everyday and dont have to experience all the little problems with these cars. i guarantee that if ANY employee of Lexus had a car that was making that hidious sound on startup, they wouldnt take "its just the noisy engine. its common".... BS excuse!!!!

take your car in and get it fixed. i know whats making the sound cuz i read the TSB. oil starvation of any kind is NOT GOOD!! even if its for a second.

This is NOT normal. There IS A PROBLEM. I had this problem before and brought it into the local Lexus dealership. They told me the noise (which I described as a grinding sound like two pieces of metal grinding up against each other) was normal and it's because the engine is pushing the oil into the engine. It sounded like BS off the bat but there was nothing I could do since I could not repeat the sound when I wanted to. I finally recorded the sound with my camera and brought it into Lexus. That was when they actually looked at my car and the service rep had an idea of what the problem was. It was definitely something faulty concerning the engine, but I forget what it was now. Well, it's fix and everything is fine now. I never heard that sound again.

Got 'er done, huh? My wife has clattering problem every now and then, but it's mostly before the bed time. Since I've had her for almost 20 years, the warranty is pretty much over. Should I just live with it or take her in to an independent mechanic?

I have an easy cure for this common problem, but it might be costly for some:

1. take her out for a quick lunch;
2. give her an American Express Charge Card;
3. drop her off at a mall;
4. pick her up 10 minutes before mall is close;
5. problem solved.

---> you know I am kidding, right!!! <---

Seriously, I had the followings done to repair that noise:
-->TSIB EG7027 ENG KNOCK @ COLD START
- gear assy, camshaft;
- gasket x 3;
- gasket, timing chain;
- gasket, camshaft bea;
- insulator, fuel pump;
- gasket, cylinder hea x2;
- gasket, air surge ta.

-->TSIB EG20-07
- just software update.

For all these, take about 6 hours to do the work !!!

I had it done almost a year ago, thus far still noise free!!!
