Finally received the last of the parts today. It appears, although I haven't installed it yet, that the wiring is as I'd hoped... a simple plug in and then tie wrap it over to the hitch. If different I will advise.
For us Canucks, this etrailer deal is an absolute winner. If anyone wants more info, PM me.
I recently purchased a 2010 RX 350 FWD but did not get the hitch installed at the dealer. My salesperson advised that I would save a bundle and get at least as good a job done if I went to U-Haul.
I called U-Haul yesterday and they want a bit less than $250 installed. I then called my Lexus dealer and they want ~$925 installed.
This seems like way too much of a discrepancy, even for Lexus. All I want is the hitch so that I lock in my bike carrier - I have no need for wiring.
Has anyone gone with U-Haul - do they use the same "hidden hitch" as Lexus?
I just ordered a 'curt' hitch that I understand from this forum to be a good fit and 'hidden' hitch setup. I reviewed the pdf installation instructions prior to ordering and the process seems straight forward. If you are able to read instructions and turn a wrench you should be able to do this yourself and save a bundle. I paid ~150 for my hitch.
I just finished installing my Curt Hitch on my 2010 RX350. Less than an hour as everything went just as the instructions stated.
As I have the FWD RX without the towing package, I understand I need to buy the Lexus converter (part #82670-0E040) to enable the installed connector under the rear bumper. $200+ bucks - ouch!
Has anyone gone the other route and installed separate wiring and converter box to wire their trailer?
Mine arrived last night. I am going away to the beach for labor day and will not get to this until the second weekend in September. I'll try to fully document my install with pics.
Thanks for the pics. That is pretty hidden alright, at least compared to my truck. It looks like you would need a longer ball mount so it doesn't hit the bumper. I wonder if the Curt is the same profile?
Curt looks exactly the same. Only difference that I can see is re the wiring harness. My Canadian, J built AWD, Sports Package has an exterior connector in the left rear which snaps into the wiring harnes that I bought from Curt. I didn't cut the facia as shown in the Lexus install pics and so the harness is just lying on top of the facia to be pulled out and hooked up the the trailer when needed. Not sure how this will work as I haven't tried it yet.
So its possible to install the Curt hitch without cutting anything?
This was the only thing that made me a little queasy, or made me
think the install might be hard?
No you must cut the facia... as I said above, I cut mine with a jig saw and then did fine adjustments with a box cutter... No big deal and the directions from Curt are excellent. No great skill required.
