Toyo/Nitto, Kumho, Hankook and the Chinese imports make tires above 20" as well - but they don't have enough market share to be seen seriously.

I hope they didn't copy the 20" rim size. One of the things that is holding back potential Venza sales, especially with the 20" rims (19" is standard) is that some customers don't want to have to pay for those expensive 19 and 20-inch tires when they wear out. This is not just me speaking.........I've actually heard this from Toyota salespeople and on blogs.
In fact, when I first reviewed the Venza, I remarked, even before it went on widespread sale, that I thought the wheels were larger than necessary.

You're right that not everyone considers tire size as a factor in purchase, but in today's economy, keeping service costs down has become as important as the initial price itself.
Venza is getting good traction for a less practical and stylish SUV, another winner from Toyota. The results are good, especially out west per a internet sale manager here, but agreed it doesn't have old school appeal.
The Outback, which goes back to 1995? Or regular, car-based SUVs like the Highlander and Pilot?

Toyota has created a nice lucrative SUV niche for those seeking something that's actually stylish and still a reliable Toyota underneath. Also I'm seeing more of the 4-banger Venzas around, lower pricing and better mpg has appeal for many.

Didn't you, or someone in your family, get a new Impreza just a few years ago.
I do agree with you, however, to an extent. With some exceptions here and there, a number of the vehicles built in the 1990's were better than those of today (GM being one of the chief exceptions).
