Yes and look at the fuel prices in those markets, tax incentives, no surprise at all.
But what does that have to do with the Lincoln M-whatever SUV in the US market, weighing in at 5000 pounds and Ford wisely selecting something other than a 2.0L 4 banger for it's intended American market, not much.
I agree that a 2.0L turbo 4 cyl is not the right engine for a 5k lb beast like the Lincoln M-something. Might be better suited for duty in an Escape size/weight vehicle. It might even be too small for the Edge and its Lincoln cousin which are well over 4,000 lbs.

I disagree. One, 4 cylinder engines are lighter, obviously, thus reducing weight. Secondly, this idea that "there is no replacement for displacement" is becoming less and less valid. I guess we will see with the 2.0L Explorer.

Except we are talking about the 5000 pound, huge MKT.
But if we change the topic to the new unreleased 2011 Ford Explorer, then the 2.0L 4 cylinder motor should be a much better match I agree. The 2011 Ford Explorer is estimated to weigh about 4400 pounds.
Again, it sounds like Ford's making a couple good decisions for the US market.
Certainly interesting info to know for us sitting on the sidelines with no interest in owning this Robocop SUV, but it happens to be a Lincoln with the challenges associated with selling anything from that division.
I think he dozed off trying to sift through the 2.0L 4 banger discussion in a huge Lincoln SUV that hopes to have some sales traction in the US market.
But there were a few factors that made the discussion academic at best:
. Lincoln is one sad division amongst premium vehicle brands
. Average gas prices in the US contributes to the point that buyers in this class of vehicle and price range don't car as much about mpg. Fuel costs are only a small part of the premium vehicle buyers' budget.
. Adding a 4 banger to a Lincoln this huge and heavy will do little to improve market acceptance or profitability of this model.
Should stimulants and fresh air be applied he might finish reading.....................zzzzzzzzzzzzzz....................
Most people will never remember or even care about the lame MKT (another meaningless alphabet soup name from Lincoln), what were these dopes in Marketing thinking............................................
