thanks Lex.....I think they make a great trio. Hope I can keep the RX running for another 4-5 years. Great vehicle. It's the only one I have ever kept and paid off. Ususally they are sold within 3 years and on to a new vehicle.
this one has been so good (other then the trans issue) that I can't sell it. It gets me everywhere I need to go.....on and off road.
well, it's happened to my uncle. his 01 just packed it in. started it up in the morning to go to work, backed out of the driveway and then.... nothing. it wouldn't go into any gear other than park no matter how much he rowed it and finally had to tow it to the nearest dealer, and they quoted him $7k(!) to install a rebuild into it... hell no. his rx has always been dealer serviced since day one, and it's been out of warranty for some time, but all they told him was "it's old, you can't expect it to last forever" ... and before this he was hoping to trade up to an rx350. sigh.
anyone got a lead on a nice minty U140F?

slightly off-topic dumb question but... do awd highlander owners have the same tranmission problems that we have?
The highlander wasn't introduced until the 01 model year. Rumor has it that the RX300 transmission was updated for the 02 model year. So it's quite possible that the highlander had the revised transmission. We'll soon know, though - the real problems didn't start with the RX300 until a year or two ago so if the 01 Highlander transmissions used the 4 pin planatary gear, they should be starting to crap out around now!
