Anyone know what the price of this service is? for my 35,000 i went to midas (plus they check they brake fluid etc) and got my oild and filter done as it was much cheaper.

35 and 40k are the same service- just an oil/filter change.

Unless you're silly enough to ask for a "40k service" instead, where they'll still just do an oil change but charge you 3 times as much for it.

Service required on a 2IS- (by the book)

Every 5k- Oil/filter

Every 15k- Cabin/Engine filters (you can do these yourself in about 5 minutes for $0 labor)

Every 30k- Brake fluid change

Every 60k- Spark Plugs change

Every 100k- Coolant change

That's it. Anything more is a dealer jacking you for $.

hey kurtz. What about changing out brake pads / rotors? I am i am an average driver. I do not do sudden stops, nor do I drive like a granny. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

There's really no set interval to change these as they're wear parts... they should be replaced when they need to be replaced. For some folks that'll mean new pads every 15k miles... for some they might get 50k or more out of a set.

If you haven't yet I'd take advantage of the free TSIB pads from the dealer though (and some folks have gotten new rotors out of that deal as well)

Most places will do brake inspections for free (in hopes of you paying them to fix any problems) so get em checked reasonably often (probably monitoring the amount of wear every oil change or every other oil change would be fine if doing 5k changes) and judge from there. When they're actually worn out (or just about), replace em.

Just make sure you get them to tell you what they measured for the pads and rotors when they check them before you take their word that they need replacing.

The last service at the Lexus dealer, I was a little hard up for cash. I asked if I could just have an oil change. He said sure, what ever you want. I can't recall the exact price but it was about $68 total. Since mine is the 5.0L V8, I can't complain at all. And I get the log as a Lexus service which I know will help come time to trade in.

I learned the hard way to only ask for an oil change and not 5k, 10k, etc. service. You get taken to the bank that way and the dealers laugh while taking in your money.
