Im a 1993 Lexus LS400 Owner

I made the Mistake of having a Drink
that was in the Cup Holder Spill
while I was Driving on the Freeway..
..
In Slow Motion I seen the Soda
Spill Into the the Shifter....

All I could do was Throw some Napkins
It It while Driving over 65...

Now Nothing happened Right away...

But Days Later I noticed It was Harder
to get My Car out of Park.
After its been sitting for a while....

Now a Week Later.

Im Stuck in Park....




The Button on the Shifter
will not go All the way In.
Even when I Press Hard on the Brakes....

Has this Happened to Anyone ???

Is there a Souloution without Taking
it to the Shop for Costly Repairs ???

EDIT~

Lexus has a Shift Lock Button to the Left of the Park Gear [P]

You have to Pry the Cover off with a Screw Driver.
You will see a Yellow Square,
Press Down on the Yellow Square
While Pressing the Brake and
the Gear Shifter Button at the Same Time.
The Car should Release into Reverse ... etc.

use a screwdriver or the blade of your key and shove it lightly into that slot on the top left of the shift plate, the plastic tab will come off and you can use your key to push the ubtton in underneath it, unlocking the shifter.

Need to pop off the console cover around it to get in there and clean the shifter . The small solenoid that is released when you press the brake to unlock the shifter is sticking.

Or just buy bottle of alcohol from the pharmacy and spill it on the same spots...i think that would also help as it will clean it, and then evaporate...

P.S.You don't have to pour the whole bottle

WOW , i hear some stupid things but some just make you wonder.
Don't throw any liquid inside it unless you remove it from the car but then you might as well open it and clean it properly.
It is electrical as such the alcohol is conductive .
Just for fun your SRS ecu is located back there also.

The Shift Lock OverRide Button is Just a Quick Fix.
I still need to take my LS400 Into Service.
I just use the OverRide Button so I dont have to Tow It....

you'd take it in for something this simple

take it all apart, clean/replace, put back together, buy a new exhaust/visors/tint/etc.... with the money you just saved

this is really the best advice. the Solenoid was stickin in my LS. I just cleaned it and put some silicone spray lube and VOILA!

I love how the LS problems are such simple fixes!

make sure to use silicone lube, not petroleum based

So This Morning Im about to go to work then
My Shift Lock OverRide Yellow Tab Breaks on Me *FFFFUUUUUUU
cause Its a small peice of Plasic FML


(Not Mine Just an Example)

So Now Im Forced to Clean It.

How do I get Inside The GearBox ???

Well my proposal was based on my spilling of coke on the window control buttons (drivers side)...
I was a bit lazy and I couldn't take appart all of the buttons in details, so I poured a bit of alcohol, and then blew it out with compresed air (did it twice)...

After that it was all perfect (even better, the buttons are more sensitive now )...

I working with micro-electronics for a living, so I know that alcohol does nothing to it (of course, it musn't be powered while cleaning)...

Anyways, you guys keep taking everything apart, and I'll just do my "stupidities"

what happens when you subject clear plastic to isopropyl alcohol

try it on a thin piece of normal everyday plastic/acrylic that you don't value.
