Default Eco light and Eco Mode

I assume this option is the same on the RX350 as on the RX450h and I have a question about it. What is the purpose of the Eco Mode as long as you pay attention to the Eco light on the instrument panel? Am I missing something or are these two things redundant? In other words, is the Eco Mode really necessary? What is its purpose?

my understanding is that the ECO light comes on when you are driving frugally. that means on the hybrid, if you stay in the green zone of the tachnometer, it will come on to tell you 'you are doing a good job' This light happens when you are in the normal driving mode and driving efficiently.

the ECO mode which you push by yourself retards the gas pedal (kind of like snow mode in past lexus models) and also reduces the drain on the car from the air conditioning.

ECO mode seems to work well for me, RX350. If staying with green, my RX apparently run economically in many circumstances. In the first couple of weeks, I did pay attention to it. It's a little annoying and against my driving habits. Afterwards I just feel so natural to push my RX forward without checking it on your panel. I have been accustomed to this behavior now.

However, I couldn't understand the whole mechanism of ECO mode on 450h. I thought Hybrid driver should accelerate the car to the reasonal speed range, then release the pedal to cruise, and so. Or this ECO mode is supposed to show the driver how-to... ??? Anyway, I assume ECO on 450h should use the different methods/theory/mechanism, rather than the one on 350.

yeah eco mode just stops you from making jack rabbit starts, thereby not using fuel at much for uneeded acceleration. in other words, you have to push the pedal down further for the car to go. and making the air conditioning weaker is a good tool too

i test drove the 450h this afternoon, with the eco mode off. you can definitely feel the HP difference between the 450h and the regular 350! in fact, getting to 85-90 kph took almost no effort at all. i was quite pleased with the performance (for a suv)

Good to know.

I'm waiting for my dealer's notice about test-driving 450h. Hopefully I won't wait too long for this chance.

How do you turn off eco mode and the eco light on the RX350? I couldn't find it in the manual....

there is no ECO mode in the RX350, that is unique to the RX450h. The ECO light is the only thing that the RX350 has. Im not sure if you can turn that off. NOTE: ECO light does not change the driving habbits of the car like ECO mode. It looks at your own driving habbits and illuminates the light if you are driving frugally. It does not change the pedal resistance like ECO mode does on the RX450h. So unless the green light bothers you, the ECO light doesnt do much good or harm

Instructions on turning off ECO light on RX350 is in the manual under "customization" section. It's different directions depending on whether or not you have NAV. It was quite easy.
